Choosing a trip to Spiti valley and Kasol is like choosing between Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Honey Singh; one must need to fix what he/she wants to do in his trip; comparing these two places is utter stupidity. Ask yourself the following questions (presuming you are in a trip): Do you prefer: (a) a hectic trip with lots of travel via bad roads, (b) leisure relaxed travel via good roads Can you pull yourself outside your comfort zone? (a) limited food, limited toilet facility, electricity crisis, (b) home like comfort Are you rich? (a) No you really have limited budget. (b) You can spend a lot on this trip Do you like crowded tourist places? (a) No (b) Yes Do you like being close to the nature? (a) Yes, (b) No Do you like exploring new culture? (a) Yes (b) Yes Do you prefer: (a) barren Himalaya, (b) green Himalaya Do you love photography? (a) Yes (b) Not that much Do you smoke weeds and drink a lot? (a) No, (b) Yes Do you love adventure? (a) Yes, (b) No Now, if you find most of your answers are (a), choose Spiti else choose (b). Spiti is way too beautiful, calm and enjoyable place for a adventurous tourist compared to Kasol. Kasol hardly have any scenic beauty. If Spiti is Katrina Kaif Kasol is Sonam Kapoor. Kasol is Ganja paradise and full of Israeli hippies who just smoke and dance. It is very favourite place to college going teens for a weekend trip. In 7 days, you can do couple of treks near Kasol (Kheerganga, Malana Village etc), but honestly in terms of beauty they are nothing close to Spiti. A extensive trip to Spiti requires some fitness if you are alone and commuting via public transport. If you noticed question (6) has both options yes, well, if Kasol is mini Israel, Spiti is mini Tibet. The Buddhist culture in Spiti (Kaza, Tabo, Dhankar, Losar etc) is something nice to see. While Kasol is full of thugs, Spiti is blessed with some of the best humans I have ever seen. Now dont get me wrong that I am saying Spiti is better than Kasol. Kasol is not a worthy place in terms of natural beauty, it is a place to spend lazy weekend, smoke hashish etc. It is entirely depends on the tourists purpose.

If you're looking for a quaint, adventurous trip, definitely head to spiti. kasol is quite commercialized now and very crowded and noisy. but there are nearby villages in kasol that are still beautiful and peaceful. you can refer to these links and make a call- http://waywardwayfarer.com/2018/08/serendipity-delhi-to-batal-spiti-valley/ http://waywardwayfarer.com/2018/06/rasol-a-peaceful-parvati-valley-getaway/ enjoy!

You should definitely skip Spiti valley for now as the weather is quite unpredictable there right now, there has been snowfall recently, which is causing roadblocks. You should head for Kasol, all the treks are still open and the weather is perfect.
