Hi Prateek, the best route from Delhi to Leh Ladakh on bike will be via Manali. Complete route: Delhi → Patnitop → Srinagar → Kargil → Leh → Tanglang La → Sarchu → Jispa → Manali → Mandi → Karnal → Delhi
Hey Prateek, The best circuit to delhi to leh will go like this :- Delhi - Jalandhar - Amritsar - Jammu - Srinagar - Kargil - Leh - Karu - Sarchu - Keylong - Udaipur - Killar - Dalhouise - Kangra - Palampur - Mandi - Chandigarh - Kurukshetra - Delhi .... This is the best route to take as the altitude will increase gradually while you ride and its always good ... Happy Travelling Bro!!!
Though the road trip now is not possible but u should cover both the ways. One from srinagar passing the Zozilla pass via Kargil to leh. Other from Manali.
10 Days is okay-okay to visit Leh. Last July I and my 4 friends went to Leh from Hyderabad. And it took exactly 10 days. I'll tell you a sample itinerary. Day 1: Start from Delhi for Manali in the night. Take a Volvo bus. And have a cab booked in Manali for going to Leh. Make sure that the cab is a 4x4 wheel like Xylo or Innova will also manage to make the journey. (We took Innova because we didn't get Xylo) Day 2: In the morning you'll reach Manali. (Here we took 1-day break, to prepare ourselves for The Manali to Leh journey). The Manali to Leh is roughly a 30-hour drive. You can complete it in 2 or 3 days as you feel comfortable. We covered it in 2 days. The first day 12 hours and second day 16 hours. Day 3: Between Manali and Leh, you'll definitely have to do a night stay. So Keylong is a good option. You will get decent guesthouses and food. We reached Keylong around 10 PM when we started from Manali after breakfast. Note: Right after Keylong, there is a place Jispa, where you can do riverside camping. But start early from Manali to be able to make it to that place. Day 4: Start from Keylong early morning as you need to cover a lot of distance today. By night you should be able to make it to Leh. We had booked a hotel already and the place was very nice and clean (Mryul Guesthouse). Take rest, as you'll be exhausted. Enjoy the best sleep of your life. :) A note about Day 3 and 4: In these two days, you'll witness the most beautiful landscapes of India. And this is the most difficult part of the journey. You will pass through some of the highest peaks of Himalayas. There will be drastic altitude change. This is what makes people sick (vomiting, acute mountain sickness, low blood pressure etc). Don't worry, read the section on things-to-take at the bottom of this answer. Day 5: For this day, I'll recommend, go easy on yourself. Leh is at higher altitude so your body takes time to adjust to it. Oxygen levels are relatively low and hence you'll tire faster. This day you can use to visit the city on foot or hire a bicycle. Roam around in the market. Enjoy Ladakhi food and Yak Cheese. Get yourself some LEH branded T-shirts. Talk to people about places to visit. etc etc. Note: Once you set up your camp in Leh, there are nearby places that you can visit one-place per day. There is Pangong Lake, Nubra Valley, and Khardungla Pass, and Lamayuru. You can visit them in any order. You can park your cab and get bikes on rent to visit these places. For all these places, you need to start early, like 8 AM or so; because you need to be back by evening. As melted ice starts flowing on the road, tourists need to start back by 12 or 1 PM. Day 6: Visit Pangong Lake This the most amazing lake. Few Bollywood movies have been shot there, like 3 Idiot's climax scene. The thing to note is that start back by 1. We started at 2, and the melted ice started flowing on the road and water level increased at one pit and the jeeps couldn't pass. Only trucks could pass. We had to park our Innova there and take a lift from a truck. Our drive slept in the car and came back 2 past midnight when the water level came down. Day 7: Visit Khardung La Pass: The Height Motorable Road in the World There is a cafeteria on the top. You'll enjoy the Maggi there. There is also a souvenir shop which sells T-shirts and mementos branded with "Khardung La Pass" tag, so get one. Day 8: Visit Lamayuru There are many monasteries in Leh. Lamayuru is the biggest. If you are religious and believe in spirituality. You'll like talking to the monks there and their lifestyle. Day 9: Visit Nubra Valley We had to skip on this, we were really tired of all the trips. You can do a night stay there. There are camps; we'd heard. And come back in the morning. Day 10: Go to Srinagar You are done. Start for Kargil, visit Vijaypath on the way, near Drass. We had to do a night stay in Drass, as the road is blocked half of the day for the military trucks to come from the other side. The road is very narrow near Barataria. So only one side vehicles can pass. Day 11: Back to Delhi OR Stay in Srinagar and roam around From Srinagar, you can directly take a flight back to Delhi. But some people cover this circle of Delh->Manali->Leh->Kargil->Sonmarg(etc)->Srinagar->Delhi. We stayed in a houseboat in Dal Lake in Srinagar. And visited Srinagar's market. Good Luck!!
Happy Travelling!!
Hello. Their are actually two routes on is through Kargil and other is Leh Manali highway. I would say Leh Manali highway is the best and badass route. You can check my blog on Leh Manali highway. Happy travelling
If you plan to go by road, the best time to travel is between May and mid-October. During this period, most of the roads in Ladakh are open and are in prime condition.
The two best routes to take from Delhi are either the Manali route or the Srinagar route. Manali-Leh Ladakh route:-
Riding along this 490 kilometre route is one of the best experiences. Along this route you will have pass through amazing sceneries and passes. The highly acclaimed Rohtang Pass falls along this route. For an easier time, make sure you book your pass permit online at the Tourism Development Council of Himachal Pradesh. This helps you avoid the queue at the SDM counter. For a petrol vehicle, the pass permit costs Rs. 800 and it is Rs.400 for a diesel vehicle. Route: Manali – Gramphu – Khokhsar – Sissu – Keylong – Jispa – ZingZing Bar – Sarchu – Pang – Tanglang La – Miru – Upshi – Karu – Leh Srinagar-Leh Route:-
If you are looking to take another route, the Srinagar to Leh Ladakh one is an equally gorgeous one to drive through. Along this route, you will pass through scenic spots of the Himalayas. You will pass through the world’s highest motorable pass, the Khardung La pass and the Kashmir Valley. This road is more convenient that the Manali- Leh because this road has more connectivity and facilities like petrol pumps and eateries. Route: Srinagar – Sonamarg – Zoji La – Drass – Kargil – Mulbekh – Lamayuru – Saspol – Leh
