Knowing the cave better
Opened on 10th October 2010, Pindul Cave is 350 metres long, 5 metres wide, and 4 metres high from the water surface to the roof. The water is 5-12 metres deep.
The cave has 3 zones, namely the light zone, the obscure zone, and the dark zone. In the light zone, visitors can swim and jump from the rock into the water. In the obscure zone, one can behold the sight of beautiful stalactites and naturally formed ornaments. Also referred to as the eternal darkness, the dark zone allows participants to be enveloped by pitch darkness for a while.
Attractions inside the cave
Stalactites are a major attraction in the cave. They are a type of formation that hang from the ceiling of caves. One particular stalactite is the biggest in Pindul Cave and fourth biggest in the world. It is so big that it needs five people holding hands to surround it.
There are abstract designs on the wall of the cave from water, crystal rock, and moonmilk.
In the centre of the cave, there is a big pillar that was formed from a stalactite and stalagmite unification and dates back to thousands of years ago.
There are pearl droplets in the middle of the cave and they drip when people pass by.
The legend has it
According to legends, the cave derived its name from a man's journey of finding his father. There was a man named Joko Singlulung who looked for his father everywhere, from forests and hills to rivers and caves. When Singlulung entered one of the caves at Bejiharjo Village, his cheek grazed the rock and swelled. The name Pindul is derived from the term ‘pipi gebendul’ which means swollen cheek.
