My Quick Budget Friendly escape to Gangtok.

Gangtok has been special. Besides being the first trip with friends during college, Gangtok has so many reasons to be special.

Best time to Visit?

Sikkim is beautiful all round the year.

April to August: Enjoy the colorful Sikkim with orchids, valleys, rhododendrons and cascading waterfalls. This is the season for the ones who love valley of flowers, colors, and rain.

October- November and February- March is ideal for people who love fresh snow.

The best way to reach Gangtok is road trip from New Jalpaiguri Junction(NJP)

You can reach NJP/Siliguri via train or flight to Bagdogra .

Road trip to Gangtok is just the best because the road has so much for you. Testa River alongside, the road till Gangtok will never fail to amaze you.

It takes around 3-4 hours from NJP or Siliguri to MG Marg(Deorali Bus Stand). The MG Marg gives you the most sparkling view at night.

It was a very short trip so I planned to Visit Tsongo Lake only.

Nathula Pass, Tsongo Lake, Baba Mandir is a day long trip and you need prior pass for the visit. Its advisable to contact your hotel so that they can arrange passes prior.

P.S: Do not miss trying the Veg Momos and Thukpas in Sikkim.

The trip to Tsongo lake begins at around 7-8 AM.

Livelihood is tough here, yet you would find the most loving welcoming and helpful people. So satisfying to see people happy with such limited availability of resources.

The roads are crazy, with snowy hills on one side and steep down on the other.

All you can find is army base camps (P.S:No network of phone) Respect and salute to all the army men guarding the nation in such drastic conditions, away from family.

The vehicles generally prefer going early and coming back down early because after 12 Noon the clouds start thickening and the chances of Snow fall increases.

We came down early as snow fall started. Reached back MG marg in around 2 hours.

MG Marg has huge collection of local food, wine, mementos, and very well maintained coffee shops. Spent my evening over hopping around MG Marg.

Next morning I took a share Taxi to Siliguri. Bagdogra airport is around 10 KM from Siliguri

Over all Cost:

Kolkata to NJP : Train: 1600 INR AC Two Tier

Siliguri to MG Marg(Deorali) : Share Taxi: 300-400INR

Tsongo Trip : 1000INR including Pass.

Miscelleneous Cost(Wine, Local Food): 3000INR

Food: 2000INR

MG Marg (Deorali) to Siliguri (300-400 INR)

Another trip to Gurudongmar Lake and Yumthang Valley... Cant wait to be here again.
