The place is nearly 90Kms away from the Chennai City limits. The drive in itself via the East Coastal Road is just awesome! The canopy of trees just greet you all along the way. They hold their hands in order with Yellow flowers predominantly to join you in the travel as the bay of Bengal accompanies you on the other side. They come all along to meet you at Mudhaliyar Kuppam beach.
What a picturesque location it is! It is such a serene sight and you feel the touch of the divine in such Marvel locations. Nature at its best, maybe I am short of another superlative to describe what I saw. What eyes perceived, what heart rejoiced, where mind stopped for a nanosecond, words could not describe all that. Words take the back seat and let silence fill it all in and around.
Just at the bank of the back water, slightly under the bridge, you see the Tamil Nadu Tourism board welcoming you to the boat house. It's a simple and neat place, with limited car parking. There are neat rest rooms to change clothes, snacks cafe to buy savouries and order food. There is a tariff board near the ticket counter letting us know all the details of the sporting activities available. They may seem priced higher slightly but are all worth the trip which you will realise at the end of the trip.
Went along with cousins, for a weekend outing to realise it is the best weekend getaway. You can take a boat to travel the back waters for 4 kms to reach the sea. Sea gulls, ducks, all stroll in the back waters. They get happy as the stream is distrubed as more fishes come up. They fly behind your boat to pick the fishes in their beak. The sight is just spectacular.
Their landing, picking and the take off is just the beauty to be adored. To get a closer look of the place where the freshwater meets the sea, the boat wala charges extra. Maybe that's something like tips he gets. It has been a long while since we visited such scenic places. So we didn't bother to pay him extra. He took us closer to the place and also showed some brick red crabs. Happa! There were plenty in numbers. As the sun shines bright, they come out more often to stroll on the beach. Their walk is just rhythmic. Attention. Stand at ease. Attention. Stand at ease. But follows a straight line trajectory. Beauty!
You land in one of the most beautiful places on this earth. May be our minds should play KGF background as you place your feet on the Beach sand. There are some huts to sit and watch the beauty of waves and have food. One can bring food or can order at the entrance and they will bring it to the hut.
We took some steamed Idlies and onion chutney as I took my kid with me. I do not want to take chances, having a kid and waking up early. And there are very few good restaurants nearby. So it is better to take some mild food or snacks if you are planning to order from there. We reached around 10 in the morning and most of the huts were free. One can stay there for 2 hours. We enjoyed solitude as a family for a while before the crowd started to sneak in.
The sea is rough and could experience high tides and so it is not advisable to take bath in the beach. But despite hot sunny day could feel the chill sea breeze and the view of horizon is something that one can cherish forever, the ocean changed colour time and again, giving the sight of various shades of blue under the tutelage of sun rays.
On one side it is all lush green and on the other side it is all the vast sea expanse. And 2 hours pass by in no time as you engage in castle play with cousins and toddler. While returning the heart was just full. It was around 12.30 PM. The while clouds were just like wool pasted on blue chart for a school project. And the trees looked as though they are standing in attention for the National anthem with no air. But the sea breeze continued its song.
Then we reached back to the entrance, to do some water sporting activities. There were few activities but we preferred water scooter. It is perfectly safe for ladies as well. The guide is all professional and it is a beautiful adventure. It feels so awesome to drive this scooter. It is like normal scooty where you press only the accelerator and the guide guides to do the right or left turn. It is an altogether different experience to drive in water with no traffic, bumpy waves trying to topple you, the buzzing sound of breeze. The left turn that the guide lets you do is absolutely worth all the money that you pay for the ride. Must try for anyone visiting this place.
After spending nearly 4 hours in the place we returned back to the city. The place is absolute weekend bliss that fills your heart, soul and mind. It simply sucks the stress out of your mind. A must visit place to destress and rejuvenate.
