Lamahatta is situated at an elevation of around 5,700 feet at a distance of 23kms from Darjeeling. It takes more than an hour to reach Lamahatta from Darjeeling in the car. Even though it's only a little town where cultivating and cattle raising are the main sources of work, Lamahatta is very much associated with the Darjeeling-Kalimpong state roadway.

Lamahatta has been created as an eco-tourism place in late 2012. It is said that, when the Chief Minister of the state Ms. Mamata Banerjee was passing by Lamahatta in March, she spent some time and took a few photos of this side of the road mountain town, its huge extending backwoods of dhupi and pines, and the radiant perspectives of the mountains and streams around.

Very soon the residents and timberland security groups cooperated with the state government to make a stunning vacationer place. Lama in Lamahatta represents a Buddhist priest and Hatta for a cottage - a priest's isolation.

Subsequently a few homestays have come up here, all claimed by the neighborhood residents. There are 15 rooms with a sum of 34 beds and all facilities have essential pleasantries including appended toilets, furniture, beds and so on. Moreover, five tents have been made each with attached toilets, twin beds, cupboards and so on. Each tent can suit two people.

While all these are created on one roadside, on the opposite roadside a huge stretch of lovely manicured garden has been made along the slope and under the thick dhupi and pine timberland. This is the 'Roadside Garden' and also known as "Lamahatta Eco Park".

From the homestays, you simply stroll over the way to the passageway of this Garden. The nursery is loaded with regular blooming plants including white and other vivid orchids.

There is an entry charge of Rs. 10/ - per individual. You will get tickets at the ticket counter on the roadside. There is a pathway that takes you to the garden. En route you will discover wooden and bamboo caused gazebos where you can relax and absorb the appeal of the garden. There are wooden seats on the pathway as well.

You will see a line of prayer flags shuddering on one side of the garden. Local people say that the breeze that goes through the prayer flags filter the environment and minds of the individuals. There is likewise a wooden watchtower made to get the most ideal perspectives around Lamahatta. Local people call it 'Machan'.

You get superb perspectives from several different places in the garden. What would you be able to see? probably the best that wherever in Darjeeling area offers ....The snow peaks of Kanchenjunga, Tiger Hill, Darjeeling town and its scenes, and the Rangeet waterway streaming underneath.

Lamahatta offers a peaceful, calm and romantic ambiance, go for some nature strolls through the complexity of dhupi wilderness, appreciate the delightful nursery and the perspectives around and a few other characteristic attractions close by.
