If you are planning to visit Kolkata, Durga Puja might or might not be the perfect time to do.So, depends on the way you want to experience. Each year, the festival is celebrated with great and transforms Kolkata’s streets into a vibrant pandals and dazzling light displays.

Day 1

As usual, My trip started from Hyderabad booked the East coast. Dont ever book the east coast instead take the falaknuma express.Try to book the tickets in 2-3 months advance if you're going in October.

So, I have reached kolkata in the evening. Right in front of the station you'll find a lot of yellow taxis costing a lot to go anywhere in the city. I would prefer taking a UBER instead because ola might not work in most of the area. So its better to book an UBER.

Although pandal-hopping remains the key highlight, here are some other culture-soaked experiences that must not be missed during the pujo days :

Pandals have always formed the core of Durga Puja. The featured artworks stun the onlookers and give a hint of the Bengali tradition. The best way to go pandal-hopping is to surrender yourself to the crowd. Ranging from contemporary themes to the traditional ones, these pandals justify the grandeur that the festival is associated with.

This quick Durga puja guide will be of some help.

Traffic Beaters

The easiest way to go pandal-hopping in Kolkata is to surrender oneself to the crowd. However, there are less masochistic ways of beating the puja traffic. We recommend checking the timings for metros and sticking to the timetable for an easy way out or UBER is always preferable.

Food guide

It is advisable to exercise some caution while sampling street food during the pujas. Most pandals have stalls around them selling freshly-made rolls, chaats and chops. But theyre mostly little bit costly then regular. So, i would suggest you to get something outside of the the pandals area.

The popularity of Dada Boudir Hotel have reached such height, that, we heard, one has to stand in queue for hours to get his turn. Their old outlet have still been kept like it used to be with basic seating arrangements. And an year ago they have opened a new outlet nearby, with AC facilities and multi-floor seating arrangements. We had our biryani in the old outlet thou and its worth every penny(220Rs/- Mutton biryani).

Roaming around kalyani was worth it too. Went in and around some pandals ;)

For lunch we headed to one of the famous restaurant in Dumdum. Kasturi Restaurant. Avoid going on holidays to avoid rush. here is the list of items we ordered along with their prices.
