Usually your travel destination gets restricted when it's a monsoon season especially in Southern India. However, I braced myself and decided to go to Wayanad, a district in Kerala known for its Coffee plantation and the most famous Hairpin curves "Thamarassery churam". One can witness a blend of breathtaking topography along with some exciting recreational activities in this Malabar district. Me along with my friend started our journey from Bangalore at 11:30 pm friday night and the bus we travelled on was a totally neck breaking. Although, the journey was very short and by 6:30 am, we found ourselves standing at Sulthan Bathery Town. Soon without wasting any further time, I went to my friend's home and from there we hopped into his Car. Being Cricket enthusiasts, our first place on the list was Krishnagiri Stadium. Never seen a cricket ground on such a high altitude. A picturesque view of the mountains will surely melt the heart of a cricketer and would always want to play here one day.
Our next stop was Phantom Rock where a rock resembles a human kind of face which sits atop another gigantic rock. The most disheartening thing to see was the continuous manual and forceful weathering of rocks across it's surroundings which has turned the whole place into a pile of debris.
Next on the list was the Sunrise Valley. From the word itself, I started to imagine a view point with a chain of mountains and a river making way through them just like we used to draw in our childhood. As we reached near the parking area, we started walking upwards after asking for the directions from a local lady. To reach the view point, we had to pass through electric fences which were positioned to deter wild Elephants. One has to seek permissions from the authorities before making it through the other side. Upon reaching there, it was just like I mentioned earlier, imagining my childhood drawings completely crafted by nature herself. You would start to wonder how beautiful the nature can be along with those faint sound of water falling to the ground somewhere far away. Not to forget, a deadly ditch just in front of you would prove how deadly one slip from one of those rocks can be.
To end the day on a beautiful note, we visited Karlad Lake which has been turned into an Adventure Park. One can try ropeway, kayaking, paddle boating etc. to challenge their phobias.
Next day, our plan didn't went as we expected it to be. As we reached the entrance of Kurava Island, there we saw a notice board from the authorities stating it to be temporary closed. Hopes went down but on the way we were lucky enough to see a wild Elephant and a herd of deer across the roadway. As the time was running away, we had to choose between Thamarassery Churam or Edakkal caves and we chose the latter. It was just like a big trekking mountain and trust me you need a good deal of stamina to reach to the top. On the way, there are lot of shops which could help you ease of your thirst and fatigue. On reaching the top, from one side, you could see the mesmerising beauty of Wayanad and on the other side you would get awestruck by the engravings done by cave dwellers on the walls some thousands of years ago.
Eventually, my journey came to a halt after a quick drive across Sulthan Bathery and visiting some Bakery Shops for tasting local cuisines. Thankfully, I was lucky enough to make this trip a worthwhile just because rain didn't hinder my overall travel.
