Wayanad is a small hill station in Kerala and at around 280 kms from Bangalore. It is the nearest tourist station in God's Own Country that you can explore within 2 days. We started early in the morning at 4AM and reached our stay at Vythiri Stream View at 11AM. We took the route NH 275 and then NH 212 which connects Mysore and then beautiful forest road through Bandipur National Park. There are two entry points for Bandipur National Park for the route Ooty and Wayanad which connects Mudumalai Tiger Reserve and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary accordingly. In Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary safaries are available in the morning 7am-11am and then in the evening 3pm-6pm. We witnessed Hair(Indian Bison) and deer roadside of Bandipur National Park and clicked. Hopped for few hydration break and stopped for Edakkal Caves. Edakkal caves is almost 20 kms away from wayanad town and 38 km from our stay. Edakkal is a two natural prehistoric caves for paintings and pictorial writings and believed done by Neolithic man in 6000 BCE. You have to climb uphills till the gate of ticket counter and then the stairs start. Stair paths are narrow that sometimes it become congested but the volunteers are well trained to manage the crowd. For the seniors it is better to avoid until and unless if you are fit enough to climb high. Please don't carry any plastic bottles as they don't allow up in the caves, checking is done while ticket punching. Must try the local natural ice creams out there serving in temporary counter. Vythiri stream view stay is inside a tea plantation and gives a serene view of tea garden and hills in backdrop. Stays includes complimentary breakfast. After finishing lunch we started for the Lakkidi view point to experience the sunset and all the loop roads down the valley. It was magical when last sun rays touched Hill top and entire valley turns golden in colour. View point was 6 kms from our stay and 16 kms from main city kalpetta. Don't forget to take a sip in coffee with onion pakora while returning from Lakiddi View point, lots of roadside cafes are available.
Next day we started early after finishing our breakfast as we supposed to trek Chembra peak. Starting point for Chembra peak was almost 28 kms from our stay. Distance between trek starting point till watch tower is about 1 km. From watch tower to Heart shape lake is about 2 kms far. Distance between heart shaped lake and Chembra peak is about 1.5 kms.
Unfortunately the route was closed due to heavy rain and we started for our return to Bangalore. Tried some juicy, sweet and heavenly mangoes roadside just after Sulthan Bathhery and being a bengali guy can't resist it. In sort it's a good trip for weekend, spending few days in middle of greeneries.
