It's no wonder that travelers from around the globe flock to this enchanting destination. Whether you're a beach enthusiast, an art aficionado, a culinary connoisseur, or an adventure seeker, Vietnam offers an array of experiences to satisfy your wanderlust.

My own journey through Vietnam left an indelible mark, especially since it was the last country I explored before the pandemic swept the globe. Saigon, Nha Trang, and Da Lat offered unforgettable moments and memories I hold close to my heart.

In 2022, I returned to Vietnam, this time to discover the North. From the bustling streets of Hanoi to the serene beauty of Ha Long Bay, from the historical depths of the Imperial Citadel of Hue to the time-traveling streets of Hoi An, Vietnam continued to captivate my soul with its timeless charm and ever-evolving wonders.

Here's a perfect 2-weeks itinerary for you to plan your trip to Vietnam.

Day 01: Arrival in Hanoi and Exploring the City

As I stepped foot in Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam, I was immediately swept away by its vibrant energy and rich cultural heritage. After settling into my accommodation, I couldn't wait to explore the enchanting streets of the Old Quarter. Walking through its narrow alleyways, I was immersed in a sensory feast. The charming shop houses, each bearing its own history and character, beckoned me to explore further. The vibrant colors, the fragrant aromas wafting from street food stalls, and the lively chatter of locals and visitors created an electric atmosphere.

Our next destination was Hoan Kiem Lake, a true oasis in the heart of the bustling city. As I approached the lake, I marveled at the elegant red bridge, known as Huc Bridge, that led to the Ngoc Son Temple. Crossing the bridge, I found myself in a tranquil world, surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sounds of nature. The temple itself stood as a testament to the city's storied past, offering a glimpse into Vietnam's cultural and religious heritage.

To truly immerse myself in Vietnamese culture, I couldn't miss the opportunity to witness a traditional water puppet show. Held at the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre, this ancient art form had me captivated from the first moment. The skillful puppeteers brought the puppets to life, telling captivating stories of rural life, mythology, and legends. The combination of live music, water, and the grace of the puppets was a true spectacle to behold.

As the day transitioned into evening, I sought out the vibrant street food scene that Hanoi is famous for. The Old Quarter came alive with enticing aromas and bustling food stalls. I sampled a variety of delectable dishes, from the aromatic and flavorful bowls of pho to the crispy and satisfying banh mi sandwiches. Each bite was a revelation, showcasing the unique blend of flavors and textures that define Vietnamese cuisine.

With each new experience, I eagerly anticipated the adventures that awaited me in the days ahead, knowing that Hanoi had so much more to offer.

Day 02: Hanoi City Tour: Unveiling Landmarks, Artistic Streets, and Vibrant Markets

The day began with a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the nearby Presidential Palace. Standing before the majestic mausoleum, I felt a sense of reverence as I paid my respects to Ho Chi Minh, the leader of Vietnam. The imposing architecture and meticulously maintained surroundings were a testament to his enduring legacy. Next, I delved into the serene atmosphere of the Temple of Literature. As Vietnam's first university, it exuded a sense of intellectual pursuit and cultural heritage. The picturesque gardens, ancient pavilions, and courtyards transported me back in time, allowing me to appreciate the importance of education in Vietnamese history.

Wandering through the charming French Quarter was a delightful experience. The elegant colonial buildings and tree-lined streets created a fusion of Vietnamese and French influences. I marveled at the architectural beauty and took my time to explore the hidden gems within this vibrant neighborhood. Among the notable sights was St. Joseph's Cathedral, an awe-inspiring structure that stood as a symbol of faith and history.

To add an artistic flair to the tour, I made sure to visit Hanoi Mural Street. This vibrant street, adorned with captivating murals, showcased the artistic talent and cultural stories of Vietnam. Each mural was a work of art, depicting scenes from daily life, traditional motifs, and historical events. It was a visual feast that brought the city's artistic spirit to life.

However, the highlight of the day was the enchanting experience of Hanoi Train Street. As I navigated this unique street, I could feel the excitement in the air as locals and visitors gathered to witness the passing of the train right in the midst of a residential neighborhood. The narrow alleyways were transformed into a lively spectacle as the train rumbled through, creating a mesmerizing sight that perfectly encapsulated the charm and resilience of the Vietnamese people.

The day culminated with a visit to Dong Xuan Market, a bustling hub of activity. Here, I immersed myself in the vibrant atmosphere, exploring stalls overflowing with local handicrafts, clothing, and souvenirs. Day 03: Hanoi to Halong Bay, Explore Cat Ba Islands

We embarked on a scenic drive to Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated for its awe-inspiring limestone karsts and the mesmerizing emerald waters below. Boarding a traditional junk boat, I cruised through the bay, marveling at the towering cliffs and picturesque islands that surrounded me.

My journey eventually led me to Cat Ba Island, the largest island in Halong Bay. Here, I found myself immersed in lush landscapes, strolling along pristine beaches, and discovering vibrant fishing villages. The island's charm and natural beauty were truly captivating.

As the day drew to a close, we relished a sumptuous seafood feast on the boat, all while witnessing the sky paint a breathtaking sunset over the bay. The entire experience was nothing short of enchanting, a true masterpiece of nature's artistry.

Day 04: Halong Bay - Kayaking and Exploring Caves

Continuing my exploration of Halong Bay, I embarked on a thrilling kayak tour, navigating through the maze-like limestone karsts. Paddling through hidden lagoons, I was treated to an up-close view of the dramatic scenery that surrounded me. It was a surreal experience, being dwarfed by the massive rock formations that jutted out of the emerald waters.

One of the highlights of my day was a visit to the awe-inspiring Sung Sot Cave, aptly named Surprise Cave. Inside, I marveled at the intricate rock formations that nature had sculpted over centuries. The cave's grandeur left me in sheer awe, and it was an adventure through time and geology.

As the evening approached, I eagerly joined a cooking class on the boat, where I delved into the secrets of Vietnamese cuisine. Learning to prepare local dishes was a delightful experience, and it added a wonderful layer to my journey through this captivating corner of the world.

Day 05: Halong Bay to Hanoi and Travel to Ninh Binh

Saying our goodbyes to the enchanting Halong Bay, we made our way back to Hanoi. It was a bittersweet farewell to this captivating place. From Hanoi, our next destination awaited – Ninh Binh, often described as "Halong Bay on land" due to the striking resemblance in its limestone formations.

Our journey led us to the Trang An Landscape Complex, a UNESCO-listed site that seamlessly blends stunning natural landscapes with historical and cultural significance. Here, we embarked on a picturesque boat ride that wove its way through intricate cave systems, along serene rivers, and beneath the imposing shadows of towering cliffs. It was a different kind of magic, but one that left an indelible mark on our adventure through Vietnam.

Day 06: Exploring the Valley of Ninh Binh

I dedicated the day to immersing myself in the picturesque Ninh Binh valley. The journey began with a visit to Tam Coc, a place often dubbed "Halong Bay on land." Here, I embarked on a memorable sampan boat ride, gliding gracefully through a landscape of lush rice paddies and meandering limestone caves. The juxtaposition of the serene waters against the towering limestone formations was a sight to behold.

The adventure continued as I stood in awe of the imposing beauty of Bich Dong Pagoda, a series of temples intricately built into the mountainside. The spiritual and natural harmony in this place was truly captivating.

As the evening creeped in, I embraced the tranquility of the countryside, cycling through rural villages and connecting with the warm and welcoming locals. It was a day filled with memorable encounters and the scenic beauty of Ninh Binh, etching unforgettable moments into my journey.

Day 07: Ninh Binh to Hoi An

Leaving Ninh Binh behind, I set my sights on the enchanting town of Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated for its immaculately preserved ancient architecture. Walking through the charming streets adorned with vibrant lanterns, I was transported to a bygone era. Traditional Chinese temples and the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge beckoned for exploration.

Hoi An is famous for its tailors, so I couldn't resist the chance to have tailor-made clothing crafted by one of the town's renowned artisans. It was an opportunity to take home a piece of Hoi An's sartorial charm.

In the evening, I savored a delightful riverside dinner at one of the city's many renowned restaurants. The tranquil ambiance and delectable flavors made it a perfect end to a day of exploring this historical gem.

Day 08-10: Hoi An - Ancient City Exploring

The ancient town, with its winding narrow alleyways, colonial-era houses, and riverside cafes exuding an enchanting ambiance, beckoned me to explore every corner.

My journey led me to significant cultural sites, including the Hoi An Museum, the Assembly Hall of the Fujian Chinese Congregation, and the iconic Tan Ky House. These historical landmarks unraveled the town's rich past before my eyes.

I also embarked on a serene boat trip along the Thu Bon River, making stops at traditional handicraft villages such as Kim Bong Carpentry Village and Tra Que Vegetable Village. This allowed me to witness the artisans at work, showcasing their centuries-old craft.

Of course, my exploration of Hoi An wouldn't be complete without savoring the local culinary delights, including the savory Cao Lau and delicate White Rose dumplings. Each bite was a delicious journey through the town's unique flavors and heritage.

Day 10: Hoi An to Da Lat (By Flight)

We hopped on a short flight from Hoi An to Da Lat, a city nestled amidst the lush landscapes of the Central Highlands. Da Lat, often referred to as the "City of Eternal Spring," was a breath of fresh air with its cool climate and vibrant natural beauty.

My exploration of this picturesque city led me to its renowned flower gardens, including the romantic Valley of Love and the captivating Dalat Flower Park. The riot of colors and fragrances in these gardens was a sensory delight.

I also visited the striking Linh Phuoc Pagoda, adorned with intricate mosaic artworks that told stories of spirituality and creativity.

Later in the day, I ventured to the bustling Da Lat Night Market. Here, I savored local street food, tasting the flavors of the region, and had the opportunity to shop for unique souvenirs, taking a piece of Da Lat's charm with me.

Day 11: Exploring Da Lat - Pagodas and Cafes

I immersed myself in Da Lat's enchanting pagodas and the vibrant cafe culture that defines the city. My first stop was the graceful Truc Lam Pagoda, perched atop a hill with a captivating view of the serene Tuyen Lam Lake. The sense of tranquility up there was truly special.

Next, I explored the Linh Son Pagoda, where intricate architecture and a peaceful ambiance welcomed me. It was a place to reflect and find inner calm.

Da Lat is also renowned for its thriving coffee industry, so I couldn't miss the chance to visit a local cafe. There, I savored a cup of freshly brewed Vietnamese coffee, a delightful experience that connected me with the city's rich coffee culture.

Day 12: Da Lat to Saigon

Finally, it was time to board a flight to Saigon, the bustling city also known as Ho Chi Minh City. Upon landing, I found myself fully immersed in the energetic streets of this vibrant metropolis.

My journey led me to explore the historic landmarks that give Saigon its unique character, including the iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral, the grand Central Post Office, and the historic Reunification Palace. These sites were a glimpse into the city's rich past.

I couldn't resist the lively atmosphere of Ben Thanh Market, where the pulse of Saigon beats strong. Here, I indulged in delicious street food from local stalls and savored culinary delights at trendy restaurants. It was a gastronomic adventure in a city that never seemed to rest.

Day 13: Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong Delta (Day Trip from Saigon)

I set out on an intriguing day trip to delve into the history of the Cu Chi Tunnels, a labyrinthine network of underground passages used during the Vietnam War. It was a fascinating opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the guerrilla warfare tactics employed by the Viet Cong, shedding light on a pivotal chapter in the nation's history.

Following this insightful visit, I continued my adventure to the Mekong Delta, an expansive and intricate web of rivers, canals, and bustling floating markets. Cruising along these waterways, I explored traditional villages and had the pleasure of savoring the bounty of fresh tropical fruits. It was a captivating journey into the heart of the delta, where life thrives amidst the waterways.

Day 14: Exploring Saigon

Today, my journey led me to the War Remnants Museum, a place that provided a poignant and eye-opening insight into the events of the Vietnam War.

Exploring further, I ventured into the Cholon area, often referred to as Saigon's Chinatown. Here, I immersed myself in the vibrant atmosphere of the Binh Tay Market, where the bustling market scenes offered a sensory experience like no other.

To unwind, I enjoyed a leisurely stroll along Nguyen Hue Walking Street, a bustling avenue lined with shops, cafes, and the captivating performances of street artists. It was a vibrant testament to the city's liveliness.

As the day turned to night, I dined at a rooftop restaurant, where I was treated to stunning panoramic views of the city. It was the perfect ending to a day filled with cultural discoveries and urban adventures in Saigon.

Day 15: Exploring Saigon and Fly Back Home

On my final day in Saigon, I cherished the opportunity to explore any remaining attractions or revisit my favorite spots. I started with a leisurely walk in one of the city's serene parks, such as Tao Dan Park or 30-4 Park, relishing the green oases in the bustling urban landscape.

To ensure my departure was a relaxed one, I treated myself to a traditional Vietnamese massage, an indulgent way to unwind and reflect on my journey.

In the evening, I indulged in a heartfelt farewell dinner at one of Saigon's acclaimed restaurants, savoring the vibrant flavors and cultural wonders of Vietnam one last time. As I bid adieu to this incredible country, I carried cherished memories of my journey through its captivating landscapes and warm-hearted people.
