As per sources, Maharaj said "Earlier, I had a meeting with union civil aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri and we had a detailed discussion about having an international airport in Uttarakhand. There are some technical issues at Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun and both its terminals may not be able to handle the international rush". He added that having an airport in Haridwar was important as crores of devotees, from India and abroad, visit the holy town each year. Once the project is approved by the Central government, Uttarakhand will get its first International Airport by 2030.
Uttarakhand is one of the major tourist destinations in India, and with the development of the international airport, both national and international tourists can travel to Uttarakhand at ease. As per sources, several big passenger airlines will be operated from the proposed airport. It will make it easier for travellers as well as devotees to travel to Uttarakhand.
