Meadow with a breathtaking view.

Described by many as the land of Gods, Uttarakhand is the abode of the towering Himalayas, mesmerizing lakes and holy rivers. Due to its close proximity to New Delhi, the place lures a significant number of tourists every year and offers them a perfect holiday to rejuvenate.

It is in Uttarakhand where the four holy pilgrimage sites for Hindus – Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath – are located.

It offers many adventures for those who want to go up and only further up from there! And this time, team UNEXPLORED WILDERNESS hosted its first Himalayan trek to the mystical untouched top of Dayara Bugyal.

Dayara Bugyal, at an elevation of 3750m is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful alpine meadows in India. The endless meadow, that stretches far and wide gives a panoramic view against the vast expanse of the sky. It is second to none in natural beauty.

A total of 13 members set off to Rishikesh on the night of 13 April 2018.

Day1: Rishikesh -uttarkashi-raithal- Goi

The drive from Rishikesh to Uttarkashi, while mostly uneventful, crosses Mauriana Dhar where you can see almost all the prominent mountains in Garhwal including Bandarpunch, Kalanag and even Nanda Devi on a clear day. Just after that we get our first glimpse of the massive Tehri Dam reservoir.

It was a 50 km drive from Uttarkashi to Raithal. The roads were steep and gained altitude gradually.

From Raithal to Dayara Bugyal the trek is about 7 km in total. Do not stop at Goat village. The authorities there will try to make you stay there and they are pretty money minded. The first 4 km trek from Raithal to Goi took us about 3.5 hours at our fittest. All along the path through thick forests, one can see blooming Rhododendrons which are locally known by the name Buransh. This is the state flower of Uttarakhand and is widely used to make sherbets and medicines. Everything from the drive to the trek was pristine all along.

At last, finishing the ascent we reached at our stop for the day- Goi. Goi is a beautiful clearing in the middle of the forest. The slopes are grassy, green and perfectly gradual. The campsite with a bonfire, warm dinner and conversations under the starry sky, with not another soul in sight gives a feeling that cannot ever be adequately expressed in writing.

Day2 : Goi- dayara top

Onwards to the top then, the Meadows of Dayara Bugyal reveal themselves after a steep 3 km climb through dense forests. The snow mountains slowly unveal more and more of themselves; still not giving us enough of their ethereal beauty.

A steep 2 km ascent follows till the forests finally clear out revealing the beautiful meadows of Dayara top.

The final few steps before the top was a steep tiring climb. Legs were tired, breath was heavy. But the surroundings and the view make it absolutely worthy.

When the forests suddenly give way to the grassy meadows one knows they've reached Dayara Bugyal. The feeling that you have simply arrived and there is no need to do anything else except sit there and endlessly admire the beauty of the unbroken meadows is unmatched.

There were so many hues of colors as far as the eye can see. Dark green leads into light green that turns to brown and then white which then leads to the purest blue that one can find!

day3: Dayara to Raithal

After camping the night at Dayara, we descended back to Raithal. Its a 3hours trek through thick forests of oak trees.
