Lansdowne offers a great getaway from a backpacker to family person. But the monsoons bring a tranquility to the quaint hill station. Lansdowne is basically a small cantonment in the Garhwal Region of Uttarakhand, which is the nearest hill station from Delhi about 250km by road. A two day trip is enough to recover from the hangover of the daily chores. One can have both a budget travel and a nice luxury stay. A good option is the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam Rest House , which not only offers a good location in the heart of the town Tip n Top, for which you can book room from Rs.2700 to Rs.5000 , however, one have book online or at the GMVN counters at various places in Uttarakhand prior to the visit. One can also chose from a wide range of Hotels and resorts. I preferred to stay at one of the resorts in Jai Hari Khal in a cottage for Rs.4000/- per day, it is a place 5km from the city but offers spectacular views of the Himalayan Ranges.
Places to Visit: Lansdowne is not like any other hill station where one can go to places, being a very small town it is best for the peace seekers and those who want a relaxing time. However, it is suggested that one should explore Landowne on foot. One can go to the Cantonment Museum for knowing the gallantry journey of Garhwal Rifles, Tip N Top View point, St. John's Church giving the glimpse of the colonial linkage of the place, The Bhula lake and Snow View point. Have a great time.
