Rishikesh is one of the most religious cities in India. It is also known as the Yoga capital of India .
Engaging in the holy traditions, camping river side and experiencing the enthralling adventure sports are the things most Travelers do here .
'The Beatles Ashram' or the 'Maharishis Kutiyas' is one hidden gem you should explore when you are here.
This Ashram was created by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi primarily as a place to be preached for Transcendental Meditation. It rose to popularity when one of the most famous rock bands 'The Beatles' visited it.Since then it is popularly known as the Beatles Ashram.
Before Visiting Rishikesh I had a checklist on the things to do in Rishikesh and the Beatles Ashram was up there in that list.
Wandering on the streets of Rishkesh we were hit by a lot of failures on our quest to find the Beatles Ashram.
Nobody knew about the Beatles Ashram ,neither the Rickshaw driver nor the locals and that was surprising. We were perplexed on how would we reach or even find the Ashram and so we began our search for the Beatles Ashram with the help of Google maps .
Walking and strolling from bridges to narrow lanes we followed the map and reached a point where we were clueless on how to go forward .Finally we asked a watchman about it and thank god he knew about it .
We finally reached 'The Beatles Ashram' and here is how it looked like .
The entrance gives you a glimpse of what you can expect inside.
The Entrance Fees was as follows:
Indians-150 per person
Foreigners-600 per person
We entered and were amazed with the silence and peace we were experiencing here. The place was loaded with Grafiti's on walls.
Here's one of them ..
We were already exhausted searching this uncanny ashram and so we waited in the cafetaria and had some tea.
There is a photo museum next to the canteen where in all the iconic Beatles stars are clicked with the Maharishi and also some of their concerts which took place in the ashram are beautifully snapped and displayed. There is also a section displaying the wildlife of the adjoining Rajaji National park .
Photography was restricted there and so we cannot display any photos here.
Next up we started with the exploration of this ashram and came across the various structures here including the 'kutiyas'.
Witnessed the spooky Grafiti along with dead trees .
One of my friend went inside one of the structures and posed for a photo and the door broke .It was scary but considering the fact that the ashram is abandoned the structures have become weak. A redevelopment is a must.
We further went found a Grafiti which was my favourite
Moving forward we came across the place where 'The Beatles' usually organised concerts within the ashram.
We also witnessed that some of the Grafiti's had been maligned by tourists or locals .
However 'The Beatles Ashram' still remains a memorable experience for me and my friends because of the mystery it instills in travelers .
The Maharishis Bunglow and the place where the students preached Trancedental Meditation was constructed with a view of the Holy Ganga ,It was a beautiful site to experience and I wonder how amazing the Beatles might have felt here.
After visitng the Maharishis Bunglow and the place where 'The Beatles' lived it was time for us to leave .
With lots of memories we began our way back to the next adventure.
As soon as you come out from the ashram you can chill river side .
