In this article u gonna witness how my trek was , how I traveled , how I survived.
First we made our booking through thrillophilia , our trek plan was for 6 days and 5 nights and package costs us 7000 per head without gears.
Basically I'm from South ( Vizag ) we started our journey a week before our trek , so we can explore mussoorie as well. According to our plan we have explored some important places in mussoorie ( know my mussoorie experience in next article ) on our last stay at mussoorie we planned to leave our luggage in our home stay and carry just trekking equipments, basic needs and some clothes . Whole night was went in packing things and slept at 3am
DAY - 1 . Morning we woke up had our breakfast and started waiting for our bus which should pick up us by 8.30am but they picked up us at 1pm.
But we are 4 in members and in our bus there is place for only 3, driver asked one of us to travel in another bus and we refused it . After a lot of discussion anyhow driver asked us to adjust and travel. We don't have any option so 4 members adjusted in 3 members place. The big task is we need to travel 9hrs to reach sankri ( the place where actual trek starts ) .
But bus journey was pretty good with fantastic views all around but roads are too bad and we got last row seats ( just imagine how we felt when roads are bad ) . After a bad journey with beautiful view finally we reached sankri now the twist comes . Our driver just dropped us on road and he went we don't know where to go and whom we should ask because everyone is tourists and local people don't know the company we came from. We have waited a long time with heavy luggage on our backs for 1hr on road in chilling weather. We tried to call the company memeber but their is no network in sankri village ( only bsnl sim works ). We have only option is to wait and we have waited . Finally one guy arrived ( he is a local guy and a trekker work for trekking companies ) and he asked us what is our purpose coming sankri we told him the situation he made a call to the company and another surprise arrived that is this is the guy we are searching for and thrillophilia just said bus driver pick and drop us but they didn't intimate this guy we are coming. So now we don't have a room to stay after a long wait we got a tent and we four people stayed in it . Washroom was shared by everyone ( no water ) night we had dinner had some chit chat with other travelers with whom we 4 are going for trek they all are 13members and a group . We 4 are group . Night was pretty good we relaxed in our sleeping bags .
DAY - 2 . We woke up at 7am got fresh ( just brush ) we don't have water to wash our face also . We had our breakfast ( upma , poori , sweet , sabji and roti )
After breakfast our guide gave us brief summary he told us each person gets 2 hot water bottles per day we drink or we wash they don't care their is only 2 water bottles per person. We each drink 4-5 bottles of water per day. Anyhow after filling our bottles we started our trekking. We gave our bags to mule and started hikking, Climate was cold , nature was beautiful , after 5 hrs of walk we reached "Hargoan" village at afternoon, we should stay at this place at night . After reaching we ate our lunch ( poha , mixture and sweet ) luckily we got 2 tents so we can sleep comfortably, we have relaxed in our tents for some time, In evening we woke up and played for a while ate our dinner ( poha , poori and sweet ) and slept outside our tent and started star gazing with music ( we carried our speaker ) after 2 hrs we went inside and slept .
DAY - 3 . We woke up and went to washroom which is very bad actually it is in a small tent and everything is visible , so we 4 people decide to go washroom in nature behind trees ( sorry nature we don't have option ) we don't have water to do brush also so we used our mouthwash . My view is going to washroom without water is fine anyhow we have tissue but eating food without food is yukkkk. But there is no option. After having breakfast ( poha , poori , sabji ) we started our trek to our next point "Juda ki talab" ( The frozen lake ) while trekking I have fallen alot of times because of the way that ice slopes. Got hurt at my knees and my wrist was sprained . But still our journey haven't stopped . We reached lake after 2 hrs of trek the lake was beautiful we should spend our night in this place according to our itinerary but guide has asked everyone to start moving towards base camp and we didn't explored juda ki talab properly such a disappoint, again after 3 hrs of trekking we reached our base came . Now we can witness the thick snow , after reaching base camp we had our lunch ( poha , poori , sabji , sweet ) we had rest played in snow for hrs, at night we had our dinner ( poha , sabji , roti ) and we have seen a small shop they prepare coffees and Maggie finally for a change we ate Maggie drank some hot coffee ( this guy sells something special will be revealed at the end 😝 ) we slept early in our tents because next day our trek will start at 2am for kedarkantha summit .
.
Suddenly at night we seen a change in climate a heavy stroms and breeze . Some of tents got flew away due to breeze now we 4 need to adjust in 1 tent . Heavy snowfall has started , whole night we are hitting our tents bcs the snow is covering our tents and water dripping inside our tent .
DAY - 4. We came out 2am we have seen no one is outside except some people we went to eat but their is no food we asked our guide he shouted on us and didn't gave food. We asked for some tea he said nothing is there we really felt bad even we don't have water. We have seen a kettle with tea it is warm but there is no glass we asked our guide for glass he didn't respond there are some used glass of other people we cleaned it and we poured tea and drank it we went inside our tents again. At 6am guide came to us and asked us to pack everything and said trek was cancelled due to weather change he told us u may die so pack everything we are returning back. We packed everything guide gave us some Maggie we ate and started our journey to back. In heavy snow and breeze . we reached hargoan village we thought we are going to stay in that village but our guide said we are going to sankri . We all walked more than 7hrs to reach sankri . Meanwhile we had an argument with our guide and other group members because guide is listening to other people and he is forcing us 4 . From day 1 onwards we are adjusting for sleep , food and water. On last day even we 4 people got 1 bottle of water. In return we are coming slowly because I was hurt badly and not feeling well and guide is pushing me to walk fast . I have fallen down 2 times when he pushed me. Finally me and my friend bursted on everyone and we 4 told as we got hurt we gonna come slowly any how trek got cancelled , climate became normal why u r pushing us we gonna come bit slow and guide said okay. After we reached sankri village and we have seen 13 members group have already gone to Dehradun by bus. No one waited for us we asked guide he said u people came 15mins slowly . We asked him to arrange bus or car so we can go to our place, he said he will and he went somewhere, we are at unknown people's house and started waiting for him in cold weather after 2 hrs he came back and said their is no transport he gonna arrange it early Morning it made us furious but we don't have option instead of adjusting. That night we stayed at some unknown people house ( local village people ) they gave us 1 room which is good have heater they provided us some yummy food . We ate and slept , in early morning I woke up and saw they are doing something in kitchen I went their and started talking to them tried to know their culture, even the lady who provided us stay she is so wise and comfortable with me , she made me learn one of dish , even I have prepared food in their home . Even my other friends joined me. Finally we had brush after 2 days such a relief. As our guide said our bus will arrive at 5am but bus arrived at 11am. Anyhow now we are not disappointed because we met some good people who gave us shelter , food and they are friendly they asked me to stay few more days in their home so they can help me to explore more. I told them next time I will definitely come. We clicked few pics with them and we started our journey to mussoorie to pick our luggage and we started thinking where to go after picking our luggage and finally we finalized to go rishikesh. This is how my kedarkantha trek was.
Pros of my trip
1. Met good people in sankri village who gave use shelter and food
2. Beautiful nature
3. Witnessed first snowfall
Cons of my trip
1. Booking with thrillophilia
2. Guide attitude and behaviour
3. Other group members behaviour and comments on us
4. No water to drink
5. Partial behaviour towards us by everyone
6. Trek got cancelled
Even though they are alot of cons then pros still it is memorable trip , facing up and downs , meeting good and bad people , seeing good and bad weather , staying without water and food . Everything was memorable for me .
