Rishikesh is an ancient pilgrim city laced with several mythological stories. It is the place the holy river Ganga descends to the plains. How long your trip should be?

Rishikesh can be a perfect destination for a weekend trip where one can get away from the everyday din and chaos of life. Set out on an overnight journey from Delhi to Rishikesh on a Friday evening. Spend the Saturday and Sunday in exploring and experiencing all that Rishikesh has to offer. Start your overnight journey from Rishikesh to Delhi on Sunday evening and join office on Monday. Make sure to sleep well during your return journey on bus.

How to Travel?

By Road: You can choose from the many options available to book a bus through rebus.in. The road from Delhi to Rishikesh is very well maintained and hence you can also choose to drive your own car. You would reach Rishikesh in about Five hours.

Options to book a car and a driver who would take you to Rishikesh and also stay with you there and return back to Delhi are also available. The charges would be Rs.10-12/km and Rs.300 per day for the driver.

Places to stay

Places to stay are mostly located in the Tapovan area where there are numerous hotels. There are camping options as well where you can stay in tents by the banks of the Ganges.

Experiences to gather in Rishikesh

(A) Waterfalls and Hikes

Rishikesh has some very beautiful waterfalls and the hiking routes to them through the greenery are just awesome. You can hike to the waterfalls and then get a refreshing bath in the cool gushing waters.

(1) Patna Waterfall

This is a very beautiful waterfall located at about 6km from the Tapovan area in Rishikesh. The water fall can be reached by hiking a two kilometer long trail. All along the trail you would be accompanied by the gushing waters of the waterfall flowing down to meet the Ganga. The trail would take you across the lush greenery of the Himalayas.

(2) Shiva waterfall

A few kilometers drive away from the Patna waterfalls would take you to the beautiful Shiva waterfalls. This is located right on the road and you do not have to hike and tire yourself. You can just sit on a rock near the waterfall and experience the serenity of the place.

(3) Neergarh Waterfalls

This is located very close to the Tapovan area. You can start enjoying the beauty of the waterfall right from the road itself. You can have tea , coffee or maggi by the side of the waterfalls. Well defined steps would take you higher up where you can experience the water gushing down the mountains and into a beautiful pool.

(B) Spiritualism

(1) Ganga Aarati

Rishikesh is the place where sages and saints have meditated since the 'Satya Yuga' according to scriptures. Thus, there is divinity in the air. There are numerous temples and ashrams in Rishikesh where one can experience the spiritualism. The 'Ganga Arati' atthe Triveni ghat of Rishikesh is truly an experience one must never miss. You can cross the river to explore both the sides of the Ganges by walking across the legendary 'Laxman Jhula' and 'Ram Jhula'.

(2) Vashisht Gufa ( Cave of Rishi Vashisht)

Vashisht Gufa is located few kilometers away from the Tapovan area. The Gufa is located beside the river Ganga. The surrounding is truly calming. To reach the cave one has to climb a long flight of steps. The cave is where Vashist Muni meditated to Lord Shiva. The cave has a 'Shiva Lingam' inside and many devotees come here to meditate. You can walk from the cave to reach the river Ganga.The place is absolutely beautiful and serene! Right on the river back, a few meters away there is another small cave which belonged to the Rishi's wife Arundhati devi.

(C) River Rafting

If you come to Rishikesh, River Rafting is a must. The experience would be truly truly wonderful. The thrill of crossing the rapids and then jumping into the cool calm water of the Ganga is so soothing. I simply loved the experience. The charges of rafting would be approximately as follow:

9Km: Rs. 600/-

12 Km: Rs. 700/-

16 Km: Rs. 800/-
