It's August, the Monsoon season which is an offseason to visit a hill station like Mussoorie due to heavy rainfalls. However I and my husband planned a 10 day trip covering Dehradun, Mussoorie, Rishikesh and Haridwar during Rakshabandhan & Independence Day Weekends. Actually we were planning vacations for last three months to rejuvenate ourselves from the monotonous workaholic life in Gurgaon. And Uttarakhand has a special place in my heart as I spent four golden years of my college life in Dehradun while my husband (who is from Rajasthan) had never visited the state before. So mutually we agreed to visit Uttarakhand including queen of hills- Mussoorie.
The trip went really well and I realised that off season is actually the best season to enjoy the serenity of the place. There was not much rush on the Mall Road due to the offseason, hotels and taxis were not as costly and full of people, sightseeing was more enjoyable.
In Mussoorie, some places worth visiting are Company Garden, Camel Back Point, Mall Road and Lake Mist. I really enjoyed walking up the roads with greenery and lovely mountains all around.
Few tips while travelling to Mussoorie:
1) Book your hotel in advance by researching well on Internet. I stayed in Padmini Nivas which we found after a lot of research work and the hotel was worth it. We really enjoyed the stay there.
2) If you are going by Taxi from Dehradun to Mussoorie, research online, there are enough cabs available. But Taxi is bit costlier in Mussorie as they have a Taxi Association and charge a fixed rate. Also Mussoorie Taxi Association don't allow other taxis to pick tourists.
3) Food is good and cheap in Mussoorie
4) Good for shopping as in Tibetan Market you may get lot of nice skirts, tops, palazzos that too at a much cheaper price.
