Qutub Minar is a minaret in the Mehrauli area of Delhi, India. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a 73-meter tall tower of five stories with a spiral staircase of 379 steps.

Qutubuddin Aibak is the founder of Delhi Sultanate constructed Qutub Minar first storey in 1193. After Aibak, his son-in-law Shamsuddin iitutmish completed further three storeys. The top storey gets destroyed by lightning and Firaz Shah Tughlag replaced the damaged storey and added one more storey with entrance to this tower.

Records say that 27 Hindu and Jain temples were torn down for the creation of the mosque. Chand Minar and Mini Qutub Minar are bear resemblance and inspired by it.

Access to the top was stopped after 1000 dues to suicides. On 4 December 1981, 47 children were crushed due to lightning failed in the staircase. After that incident tower has been closed to the public.

Kirti stambha an iron pillar near Qutub Minar is also famous for its resistance to corrosion, due to its protective film at the iron-rust interface. It is among the famous tourist places in Delhi
