Gangotri and Gomukh

Gangotri is situated in the Uttarkashi distrct of Uttarakhand in the Garhwal Himalayas. Gangotri is abode of maa Ganga one of the Chota Char dham temple. Gangotri is nearest road head to reach Gomukh glacier and Gangotri national park. To reduce the burden of human footprints every day only 150 people are allowed to visit Gangotri national park and Gomukh and one should take advance permit from District Forest Officer Uttarkashi around 2 km from in Uttarkashi bus stand.

How to reach Uttarkashi:

Regular buses are available from Haridwar and Rishikesh to Uttarkashi earliest bus is 4 AM last direct bus is 8 AM. After 8 AM you can travel to Chamba (Uttarakhand) and from Chamba you can get gypsies to Uttarkashi.

Gangotri national park, Gomukh Permit

After reaching Uttarkashi go to Kotbangala and get permit for 2 km from Uttarkashi bus stand. If you done with permission before 2 PM you can get bus to Gangotri same day else wait for next day.

Uttarkashi to Gangotri:

Gangotri is 100 km from Uttarkashi , In between Uttarkashi to Gangotri a beautiful small village Harsil is situated which literally means Hari-Shilla.

From Gangotri, Gomukh is 18 km trek.

In between two points where you can get snacks first is Chidwasa and second is Bhojwasa.

Gangotri to Chidwasa: 9 km

Chidwasa to Bhojwasa: 5 km

Bhojwasa to Gomukh: 4 km

After reaching Bhojwasa you can stay at Lal baba ashram for rs 150 per day, which includes dinner and morning tea or you can camp here. Best option is stay at ashram.

Here GMVN guest house is available. In Police station at Bhojwasa you can get medicines in case of emergency best practice is always keep important medicines, first aid box and glucose with yourself.
