Chandrashila-Trekking summit of the Chandranath Parbat in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand

Haridwar is an important religious place and is the gateway to Garhwal Himalayas. The Ganges flows through Haridwar and devotess come all around the world to take bath and seek blessings. Joshimath is the Gateway to important places like Badrinath,Valley of Flowers,Auli, Chopta and other Garhwal Himalayan regions. The entire road distance from Haridwar to Joshimath is around 9-10 hrs depending on the road condition. Ukhimath is famous in Uttarakhand because of Deoritaal and the temple at Ukhimath. The entire road from Joshimath to Ukhimath is motorable. It would be a good idea to visit Ukhimath and Deoria Taal on the same day and travel to Chopta to save time. One has to make a steep climb to reach Deoria Taal. The entire lake is very holy and it is said that a snake rules the lake here in the form of a NAAG Devta. In Janmashtami the Naag comes out of the lake and local people gather all around to seek blessings.

Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the Garhwal ranges of Uttarakhand. The place is very cold and has an amazing beauty.The picturesque near this region is amazing and offers splendid and spectacular views of the mighty Garhwal Himalayas.

Chandrashila is at a distance of 1.5 kms from Tungnath and requires a steep climb from Tungnath. Bone chilling cold and wilderness all around this region makes it even more adventurous for travellers and tourists. It is one of the best places in the Himalayas in India to witness the Sunrise amidst of Peaks like Trishul,Nanda Devi,Chaukhamba and Bunderpunch. It is even possible for tourists to touch these clouds as they surround this place over all. These clouds looks like raw cotton being arranged in packs.

Chopta is the playground of Uttarakhand and is a very important place as its the gateway to the highest Shiva temple of Tungnath and the summit of Chandrashila. There are places of stay here and one has to plan the day accordingly and make a night stay here after coming from Ukhimath. There are local horses all around this region and provisions are there for travellers to reach Tungnath by horse riding or trekking. Travellers should start early in the morning at around 4 am from Chopta to reach Tungnath and Chandrashila.
