Rishikesh : Ever since the Beatles rocked up at the ashram here, Rishikesh has been a magnet for spiritual seekers and for people like me who like to explore.

This place has two sides, one is the spirituality and the other is filling the pot of travel bug.

For me, this place has everything a nature seeker would ask for, the vibes, the atmosphere ,the ambience. Interactions with every kind of person, there is a lot to learn here and grasp just by roaming here.

So, we were 4 people and we started our journey from Delhi itself. We had our own car, which i always prefer but one can always use the public transport like buses, cabs etc. The cost is way too cheap believe me. I have even travelled to Rishikesh free of cost but that is some other story.

So we started our journey in a ford figo car and i was driving. Our route was Delhi-meerut-Rishikesh. It is just 250 km from Delhi and gives you a very wide perspective of rural and urban India. While travelling you will be able to get many roadside shikanjvis, sugarcane juice(ganne ka rus), jalzeera. Do try them and the authentic north indian food (paranthas, nan etc) from the dhabas on the highways. Believe me it will be a delightful experience for your tummies.

So, In around 4 hours we reached our destination and we parked our car nearby the lakshman jhoola parking there which charged us Rs 100/day.

After parking it was around 5PM and we went for our hotel hunt in rishikesh. You will be amazed that you can find your hotels from mere Rs 500-Rs 2500 based on your budget. But Rs 500 hotels have their own vibes. So we booked our hotel near by lakshman jhoola opposite Buddha cafe , It charged us Rs.1500 for 2 nights. So after taking some rest for an hour or so , we always wanted to enjoy the ram jhoola arti. I personally have visited rishikesh when i was a child with my parents having no sense of the world around me. This was the first time i was going to see the Ram jhoola arti as an adult who knows and experinces from the surroundings . From our hotel it was around 3 km walk or one can also hire the local taxis till there for mere Rs.100 . It was so liberating to see what being hindu is . After the aarti there i stood there just enjoying the peace and tranquility of the moment i was in. I was amazed to see how many foreigners are trying the cultures and are interested in hinduism. So, it is a common practice that after the arti we have a small diya which goes to everyone so that they can take the blessings of the prayer which we just did. usually a priest does this, but here again i saw a woman in her starting 40's with a rock band t-shirt. On it was written se and pistols, her curly hair, and she wanted to bring that diya to everyone. And all the indian ladies were looking and supporting her that you have to do like this. I was amazed to see that how much inclusive it is, this took me on anothe rlevel of spirituality.

Neverthless after the arti finsihed we started walking back and met many babas and talked about their journey of how they have left all the worldly matters and how they are inclined in one's spiritual journey more rather than a religious one. And one more thing do try the famous foods of chotiwala restaurant nearby ram jhoola.

It was about 9Pm and we straight went to the ganga beach cafe there on the banks of river ganga near laxman jhoola. This place had an amazing vibe, like good songs, good food, good people and most importantly good view. Just imagine listening to pink floyd on the banks of river ganga and that cool breeze on your face, what else would you want in your life.

Besides food, we interacted with the owner and some other people who came their. After finishing our dinner we were just sitting on the banks of river ganga ji and just hearing the flow of water. Just another experience.

So the next day was again amazing and totally worth it. Rishikesh will always be surprising no matter how many times you come. You will always go from here having a different and a unique experience every god damn time.

This day was all about the hippie vibe, nature roaming some waterfalls, some sight seeing. In the evening we all went to goa beach in Rishikesh. Had some drinks and were singing with an Israeli group and dancing with them.

So yes , i believe rishiskesh is like Bhagwad Geeta. If you are here for answers you will get them. you will find a way and you will return as a new person.

Places to visit : Harry's cafe , tapovan , waterfall near neelkanth, ram jhoola aarti, goa beach, ganga beach, chilam market, beatles ashram, laxman jhoola.

To stay: Lodges starting from INR 500/- *Try to start a random conversation with babas here.

Things to do : Interact with sadhus, shopping in local market, good food, explore the streets , talk to foreigners and locals, try to indulge in some yoga with yoga clubs and most importantly stop for a while and just feel how amazing this life is.

Thanks
