Overview

Uttarakhand is known as Dev Bhoomi (Land of Gods), as it is the land of great pilgrimages, sacred temples and places, which attracts millions of pilgrims and spiritual seekers to get enlightenment. The pilgrimage of 4 Dhams located in Garhwal region are considered the most sacred places in India: Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.

These four ancient temples also marks the spiritual source of four sacred rivers as well: River Yamuna (Yamunotri), River Ganga or Ganges (Gangotri), River Mandakini (Kedarnath) and River Alaknanda (Badrinath).

Itinerary
  • Haridwar to Barkot (210kms/7-8hr) HT : 1352 MTS.
  • Pickup from Haridwar Railway Station / Dehradun Airport / Railway Station. Drive to Barkot via Mussoorie, En-route visit Kempty Fall (Suggestible to have your lunch at Kempty fall as further no good restaurants are available before Barkot). Later drive straight to Barkot, transfer to your Hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax and store your energy for the Pahad (Hill) Yatra of Yamunotri the next day. Overnight stay at Barkot.
  • Barkot Weather – Generally pleasant in summer, the temperature ranges from 25-30 degree Celsius, Winter: The Days are pleasantly cool but the nights are cold, temp ranges from 10 deg to 05 deg.

  • Barkot to Yamunotri – Barkot {36kms drive & 6 kms Trek (one side)} HT : 3291 MTS.
  • Wake up very early in the morning, have breakfast, and get ready as the much-awaited Char Dham Yatra begins today. Start your drive from Barkot to Yamunotri Dham, India’s second most holy river from where the Yamuna river has originated. After reaching Jan ki Chatti, take a bath in Jamnabai Kund, which is believed to cleanse and protect from a painful death. After the bath, start a 6 km trek. This can be covered by walking, horse, or doli. Once you reach the temple, give your respects, and praise the mother Yamuna. The idol of Ganga Devi is placed inside the temple. Next, visit Surya Kund, a hot spring near the temple. The kund is so hot that you can boil some rice and potatoes here. Take this as a prasad of the Devi. After the visit to Yamunotri, trek down to Jan ki Chatti and drive back to Barkot. Overnight stay in Barkot.

  • Barkot to Uttarkashi (90kms/4hr) HT :1352 MTS.
  • On this day you will be heading out to the next location, Uttarkashi. This town is situated along the banks of river Bhagirathi and is the district capital of the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. On arrival, pay homage to Vishwanath Temple, one of the oldest Shiva temples in Northern India, and Shakti Temple, famous for the big Trishul of 6 meters in height and 90 cm in circumference. After that make your way to the hotel and relax for the rest of the day. Overnight stay in Uttarkashi.
  • Distance from Barkot to Uttarkashi - 82.4 km
  • Travel time - 3 hours (approx.)
  • Day 4: Uttarkashi to Gangotri to Uttarkashi (100kms/3-4 each side) HT : 3048 MTS.
  • Wake up very early in the morning , have breakfast and begin the journey by driving from Uttarkashi to Gangotri. Stop in between to take a holy dip in Garam Kund at Gangnani. Next, proceed to the next pilgrimage site on the Chota Char Dham route. The valley is known for its mesmerising views of Deodar trees and the soaring peaks. Once you reach Gangotri, one of the holiest shrines in Uttarakhand that applauds the Goddess Ganga, take a dip in the holy Ganges River. After the aarti, relax and admire the scenery around you. Later, drive back to Uttarkashi. Overnight stay in Uttarkashi.
  • Distance from Uttarkashi to Gangotri - 99.5 km
  • Travel Time- 3 hours (approx. one side)
  • Uttarkashi to Guptkashi (220kms/8-9hr) HT : 1319 MTS.
  • Wake up have breakfast, and proceed towards Guptakashi. En route, witness the scenic view of Ganga river. Stop for lunch at Tilwada. Take all your essentials from here as there are no shops ahead. Continue your journey and see Rudraprayag, Ukhimath in between. Once reached Guptakashi/Phata, check-in at the hotel and rest. Overnight stay in Guptkashi.
  • Distance from Uttarkashi to Guptkashi - 194.4 km
  • Travel time - 7 hours (approx.)
  • Guptkashi to Kedarnath (30kms by road & 16kms Trek one side )
  • Wake up with great views of the beautiful mountains and have breakfast. Get ready very early in the morning and drive to Gaurikund from where the trek to Kedarnath will start. Gaurikund is a natural pool with hot water, which is known for relieving skin problems. Leave early to partake in aarti at the temple. The entire trek depends upon your fitness level, so make sure you are physically fit. You can also take ponies or palki (palanquins) for the journey to make it a tad bit comfortable. In between, stop for lunch at various food joints and continue the journey to Kedarnath Temple. Once reached, praise the almighty Lord Shiva. Witness the entire valley echoing with the sounds of ringing bells and religious prayers. get essence of Kedarnath shrine, spend some time with in the temple and then trek back to Gaurikund. Overnight stay at Guptkashi.

  • Guptkashi to Badrinath (215kms/7hr) HT : 3133 MTS.
  • After a heavy breakfast check out and proceed from Guptkashi to Badrinath, the last Dham on the Chota Char Dham Yatra. This notable shrine lies at an elevation of 3,133 m and is nestled between the Nar and Narayan mountains. Once reached, explore the town on the holy confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. Once reached Badrinath, check-in to the hotel and retire for the day. Overnight stay in Badrinath.

  • Travel time - 7 hours (approx.)
  • Badrinath + Mana(The last village of India)
  • Wake up early in the morning and proceed to the famous shrine of Badrinath Temple. This morning, visit Badrinath Temple for Darshan. You can leave for quick local sightseeing at Badrinath. Visit major attractions of Badrinath such as Mana Village, Vyas Gufa, Ganesh Gufa, and Mata Murti temple. At appropriate time leave for Rudraprayag. On reaching, check-in to the hotel. Overnight

  • Wake up, have breakfast, and check-out from the hotel. Heads towards Rishikesh, one of the holiest places for Hindus from where the River Ganges flows. Visit the ancient temples, and various attractions namely Laxman Jhulla, Triveni Ghat, Ram Jhulla, and Sivananda Ashram that are tucked into the town. After the tour, transfer to Haridwar Railway Station to head back home with peace in the soul and God’s blessings.
