Kanatal Reviews

We got up early since 10 was the checkout time. We got ready and had breakfast Aloo parantha in the dhaba just outside the Hotel Drive inn which was very yummy. Now we had to leave for our next destination Kanatal. On the mid way to Kanatal there is a temple Surkanda devi temple which is a very well known temple in that area and we decided to visit that. Surkanda Devi Mandir - 2757 m/9976 feet Surkanda devi mandir is the temple of goddess Sati or parvati who is considered to be Shiva's wife. Mandir is surrounded by dense forests and affords a scenic view of the surrounding region. From the top you can see almost whole of the Tehri Garhwal diatrict. To hike at that place we had to take steps and it took around 1 hr to reach the temple. The place was full many tourists and also local people of that place who had a very strong belief in deities and goddesses. We took some rest there and came down and this time it took 30 mins. Reaching down we were very hungry, we had lunch in of the dhabas which was starting point of the stairs of that temple. Now we had to leave for our next destination. - Classic Hill Top Resort. Which was a 4 star resort in chamba, kanatal. We took a local jeep from the temple and reached our resort in 30 mins. We were surprised to see such a beautiful and well maintained resort in that village and yes it was on top of a hill ! It was a kind of treat for us at that situation when were very tired and all thanks to Astha's dad for doing the bookings for us. The resort was very big had all the ameneties and the best part was the Swimming Pool! Anupama and I were non swimmers so first we were scared to go but Astha knew swimming very well she was just excited to jump in that pool. We finally went in the pool and enjojoyed the water though I did'nt know swimming. We came back to our room our body was freezing of cold but thank god there was heater too in our room. We were delighted by the luxury the comfort peace that we got in that resort. The night was stormy and we could hear the sound of the wind like a roar. But since we were in our room it was safe. Then we had very delicuous dinner which even had the non veg and to our surprise even the dinner was complimentary.
After two hours of 'breathtaking' (both literally and figuratively) journey coupled with nauseating smell of people vomiting here and there in the rickety bus, I reached Kanatal. As soon as I stepped out of the bus, I could not believe how unrealistically beautiful the place was. A sprawling green valley lay before my eyes with colourful little houses scattered around the landscape and the feathery clouds descended so low that for a moment I thought I could touch them. The view had a magical ability to make you feel peaceful at once. The captivating view left me awestruck for a moment and I stood there for a few minutes, as if under a spell, looking at the alluring mountains warmly enveloping me on all sides. I felt home in a strange place, a place I did not even know existed until a day ago. There was a small restaurant (Swagat restaurant) right in front and I parked myself there for a good two hours, trying everything they had. In my defence, they did not have a lot of dishes to offer and I was very hungry. The staff was very courteous and they helped me with names of a few lodging places around. I walked down the valley, still coming to terms with how beautiful and quiet this place was. Sitting beneath an apple tree fully laden with fruits and reading a book has to be one of my most precious memories till date. The magnanimous expanse of Himalayas, seemingly infinite, stood there in all its glory while a few lambs grazed around the valley. Not far from there, a few pahadi women, clad in their traditional attire, roamed around picking up twigs and humming a regional song. It was human existence at its purest, simplest and perhaps most beautiful form. The imagery was like a perfect lullaby on a cold, slow day. I could only hear birds and the sound of furious winds as it was about to rain. If one tried harder, some distant, faint noises could be heard once in a while. Yes, it was that quiet and serene. I was content and without a worry even though I did not a place to stay yet. This feeling is what they were talking about in those articles, I said to myself.
One day, while going to office through crowded metro, I was scrolling down through my Facebook feeds. While doing so, I came across one of my friends status stating ‘travelling to Kanatal’. I stopped there. I had never heard this name before. So I decided to know more about it. While searching about it, I came to known, the place is famous for sightseeing, nature walks, campaign and what not. Seeing Delhi's scorching heat, humid temperature, noisy streets I decided to visit this hill station & I guess, it was the perfect summer destination to rejuvenate. It was mid June, a perfect time to visit to Kanatal, a small village in the state of Uttarakhand. The picturesque suburb of Mussoorie, Kanatal is 38 km away from Mussoorie. Though not many people know about it, but it’s picture perfect beauty, heavenly scenery, luxuriant vegetation, and bountiful adventure activities will definitely force you to visit the place at least once.
