Day 1

The Richness of India
It may be the sculptures
It may be it's scriptures
It may be it's culture

The sculptures are there
Stone hard
Come and have a look

The scriptures are there
Book bound
Come and read

The culture is there
Man bound
Come and find.

Setting off to visit the most enchanting, magnificent and ancient pride of India.

We reached Fatehpur Sikri - City of Victory before dawn.  We still remember sunshine falling on the beautifully built, strong and magnificent 'Buland Darwaza - grand gateway' built by Emperor Akbar.

The most intriguing story of the town gave us sense of attachment

The city was founded in 1571 and was named after the village of Sikri which occupied the spot before. When the city came to be known as Fatehpur Sikri - "The City of Victory". It was named after the Sikri village which had existed on the spot before. "Agra and Fatehpore Sikri are two very great cities, either of them much greater than London, and very populous. Between Agra and Fatehpore are 12 miles (Kos) and all the way is a market of victuals and other things, as full as though a man were still in a town, and so many people as if a man were in a market."

Moving ahead, the next stop was claimed as one of the best monuments of the world. The Taj Mahal, the intriguing beauty and vibrant Mughal culture gave us pride and sense of achievement

The story line says where Emporer Shah Jahan constructed the beautiful Taj in memory of wife Mumtaj, who gave the name to world's most beautiful monument.

Initially called Mumtaj Mahal was later called The Taj Mahal - The Marble Mansion, embraced the culture, tradition and architectural skills graciously ever since.

Having Lunch at 'The Oberoi', we moved towards the local markets to taste the delicious and famous Petha, Agra is famous for.

Thus, finishing one of the most satisfying days of my travel journeys, we went back to our hotel rooms.
