Catching a good night’s sleep might seem like a distant dream in those cramped economy seats for many. But if you might have always looked at the premium business and first-class passengers with envy while they sleep comfortably in their seats, UK Airline Thomas Cook has a solution for you: sleeper seats!

In a game changer move, Thomas Cook Airlines have introduced sleeper seats for their long-haul flights, which basically means you will be booking three seats in a row all for yourself. These seats consist of a mattress which convert into a lie-down bed with the armrests flipping all the way back so that they don’t get in your way. All this simply with the push of a button! The cabin crew will assist you as during the flight they will build your makeshift bed while providing you with a special kit that contains fitted sheets, head rest, blanket and an amenity kit.

These seats located at the end of the flight are designed keeping in mind the comfort factor of passengers. For example, even after the seat belt sign is switched off, if a particular passenger wants to stay buckled up in the air, they can use the seat belt extension to wear it while laying flat to avoid turbulence.

The sleeper seats will be available in their Airbus A330 flights in the economy class from 13th May onwards, however their bookings have already started on the website. They will cover destinations such as Orlando, San Francisco, New York and Cancun in Mexico.

If you have booked a meal with the airline, then you will have to finish it before making your bed. Otherwise you can sleep during the entire flight without any disturbance. While these seats are available for adults and children above the age of 12, the airline best recommends it for people under the height of 180 cm. to ensure maximum comfort. With just four seats in each flight, it is likely to get sold fast and hence needs to be pre-booked. The process is quite simple as you book it like your regular tickets and just add-on this option while completing the transaction for a fee of £199.

Henry Sunley, commercial director at Thomas Cook Airlines said: “We always look for ways to innovate for our customers and Sleeper Seat is a UK first that we are really proud of. It is a fantastic way to transform your flying experience and enjoy some extra comfort when flying in economy.”

Thomas Cook isn’t the only airline to introduce such an option though as way back in 2011, Air New Zealand introduced Economy Skycouch, which in a similar fashion allowed a set of three seats to be converted into a couch after takeoff.
