To many tourists, Macao is an after-thought when planning a trip to Hong Kong. It's a ferry ride away so why not just drop by? That was our first thought when we first visited Macao in 2009. But Singaporeans must love it so much that there is now a direct flight. So in less than four hours, I can escape the hot humidity of my tropical island to enjoy the cool air-conditioned climate in Macao during the winter months, which is what I did in 2014. Looks like it's time for me to revisit Macao and see the transformation the city has for us. But first, here are the #20ThingsIloveAbout Macao and why you would love Macao too.

1. Shopping street - This is the first and last stop for any tourists. First stop to experience the cosmopolitan mix of east and west retailers congregating and competing for tourists' dollars; last stop before you depart to buy all the yummy snacks and souvenirs for loved ones at home.

2. Portuguese History - Unlike many countries in Asia which were a part of British colony, Macao was colonised by Portugal and evidence of the past colonial history can be found in the beautiful architecture.

2. Beautiful accomodations

Like Las Vegas in the United States, much of Macao's tourism is centred in the casinos which means there are many resorts and hotels competing for tourists' money. If you're lucky, you might just be able to book a room at a reasonable rate during off seasons.

3. Street Art

Street art is getting popular in Asia as a tourist attraction. It not only depicts the culture but also provide an opportunity for artists to showcase their talent outdoor. We chanced upon this artwork during a walk.

4. Pork Chop Bun

You can't not love this unique snack found only in Macao. Locals will argue about the restaurant/shop which serves the best pork chop bun and I shall not get into the debate. But just imagine biting into a slice of juicy schnitzel sandwiched in between a crusty baguette bun, are you drooling yet?

5. Portugese egg tarts

These tarts, with caramelised crème brulee like appearance encased in flaky pastry is unlike ordinary egg tarts found in dim sum restaurants. The filling is creamier, and the torched surface adds a crusted texture for contrast.

6. The Taipa Houses-Museum

A delightful and serene park which brings you back to colonial time, to where the rich and wealthy used to live in these charming houses. The beautiful houses in their pastel shades delights both foreign and local photographers.

7. Gondola ride

For honeymooners, take a romantic ride on a gondola in the cool air-conditioned comfort and be serenaded by the boatman as you basked in the envy of those on land watching you.

10. Chinese Temples

Chinese temples are free and a great place to observe the locals, as well as burnt an incense to thank the Gods for bringing us to Macao, or win that round in a casino.
