I went on a 4 day short trip with great friends for a recent wedding, we covered most of Newcastle in the weekend we were there and took a 20min train ride out to Tynemouth by the shore for some Marshall’s fish and chips – which were perfect as they were fried in gluten free batter!

So, what’s there to do in Newcastle? Not much really, spot of shopping and long walks. The highlight was talking a way Quayside, admiring the beautiful architecture along the way, I wasn’t impressed with the exhibitions at the Baltic Flour Mills or the Laing Art gallery. I would have loved to check out the Biscuit Factory, but didn’t have a chance to visit and am curious to whether the Victorian building was a former biscuit factory or not? Sir Charles Earl Gray has a monument devoted to him in the city square – the man behind the eponymous tea, who added Bergamot to the mix to give us that tea.

Day trip out to Tynemouth

It was a little chilly to do anymore than walk along the coast and take photographs near the ruins at Tynemouth. A day trip out here from Newcastle is perfect. The fresh air and amount of greenery makes for a great running trail, apart from how chilly it is.

We stopped for an amazing breakfast in a little cafe called Dil & The Bear, great friendly service, a quirky vibe and full gluten free bread and confectionary options too!

A spinach scrambled eggs with happy bacon on gluten free toast, Full English Breakfast and an English porridge topped with chocolate. Yum.

This trip was really easy to keep to my gluten free diet, without compromising on taste… so it’s been a big win! :)
