What are the amenities for tourists at the village?
Several eco-friendly facilities and utilities are provided at the bamboo village. The village has a playground for both kids and the adults. Yoga enthusiasts will love the place as there is a separate yoga centre in the village premises.
Gardens and ponds adorn the village surrounding, beaming with exotic flora and fauns. The cottages, bridges and pathways are all constructed with bamboo, which impart a rustic feel to the tourists.
Who is the brain child behind the construction?
Manna Roy, an architect and expert of bamboo, has pioneered the construction of the bamboo village along with a team of young people. Spread across 9 acres of land, the village is located in Katlamara of Western Tripura and near to the India Bangladesh border.
The bamboo village has already started attracting a huge number of tourists within India and even foreign nationals. Even environmentalists have showed interest in the village, and the thought process behind its construction.
As per Roy, the key idea is to leverage the local and rural resources for the construction and sustainability of the village. Attempts have been made to conserve the nature and prevent any kind of exploitation. Around INR 60 lakhs have been so far invested in constructing, developing and maintaining the village.
What is the unique part of the construction?
The village is popularly known among the locals as "Bashgram", a name in the colloquial language. "Bash" meaning bamboo and "gram" meaning village. Almost more than 14 species of bamboo have been used in the village to impart the natural look. Other than bamboo, several natural plants, flowers, herbs and shrubs have been utlised for the eco-friendly environment.
Architect Manna Roy have stated that a museum is upcoming the village. Different types of old, new, obsolete and endangered materials will be made of bamboo and displayed in the museum.
