These Tips are easy to implement, and perhaps some of the best hacks on winter trekking.

Day 1

Lets start.

1 Exercise Before layering up : - People complain that down jacket do not provide enough warmth.the trick is to wear jacket when you are still warm. Exercise a little before putting jacket on so that it can absorb your body heat and keep you warm.

2 Keep your bottle in your sleeping bag : - Sleep with a water bottle in your sleeping bag.the next morning you will have water that's not ice cold.it will be close to your body temperature and nicely palatable.

3 Use two pairs of gloves to keep your warm : - wear two layers of gloves. inside, you wear a pair of polyester liner gloves and over it wear insulated gloves.This keep your hands comfortable and warm.

4 Keep camera batteries warm : - This for photographers going on winter trek. conserve your batteries by storing them in your woolen socks and keep it close to your body.Batteries last longer in warm temperature and will last you longer on the trek.

5 Choose the right section of snow : - While trekking in snow ,look for soft sections especially on the side trails.This soft snow give you gives you better grip than walking in the middle of the trail,where most of the snow become hard,icy and slippery.

6 Start your summit Push early : - On the summit day,aim to start your trek as early as possible. the snow start melting once the sun came up.then it become difficult to walk,climb and or descend in the melting snow.

7 Layer up as soon as you reach the campsite : - Don't wander around the camp site as soon as you reach.Instead,layer up as soon as you get there.This ensures that your body heat remain trapped and keep you warm the rest of the night.

8 Get into the habit of sleep early : - Trekking in winter is not a cake walk.you may have trouble sleeping because of the extreme weather.so start tweaking your sleep pattern one month in advance to be mentally prepared for the trek.Get into the habit of sleeping early.it become easier to do it on the trek too.

9 Stay layered when you sleep : - Don't remove your woolen cap while sleeping in the tent.it might feel uncomfortable,but trust me it is necessary.you can catch a cold quickly at the night because the temperature dips below the zero degree Celsius,and you are not awake at the time to cover up.so layer up as you sleep.

10 A hack to clean your utensils : - While on winter trek after eating ,it pain washing dishes with such cold water.Simply use your last chapati to clean all the veggies from the plate and eat it.you can wash your plates with just water without dipping your hands in it for a long time.

11 Invest in good trekking shoes : - They need to be well fitting,water resistant and with heat insulation.Choose wisely.

12 A tip for those with long hair : - For those with long hair,leave your hair open once you reach campsite,its cover your ears and neck nicely inside your woolen cap and jacket.

13 Carry eucalyptus oil : - Massage eucalyptus oil on your feet and hands.then quickly wear your gloves and socks.this retain the warmth and helps you sleep well.

14 Tip to manage runny nose : - The neck band or balaclava that you use to cover the bottom half of your face,can also be used to soak moisture from a runny nose.

15 Drink water and Apply Moisturizer :Apply cream like Himalaya antiseptic cream every evening after trek. Also apply Vaseline every morning. This is to avoid sunburns.Drink water even if is cold, it will warm you.Don’t forget to carry good sunglasses. They are must when you walk on snow and sun is out.
