Are you someone who has always wanted to have their own GhostBuster moment? Do you consider yourself a daredevil who often thinks of spending a night in Bhangarh, Rajasthan as their topmost to-do? Then, this one is for you! You can own a three acre village in one of the most beautiful parts of the planet. The catch? Your neighbour will be a ghost! Read further for details.
The idea of being able to buy an entire village in the spell binding locales of Scotland, amongst the Lochs and meadows would be on anybody's wishlist. And if the village on sale comes with a private beach, a semi-ancient native woodland, and trout fishing rights, wouldn’t it be just the idyllic life? However, for any such decision, knowing the neighbours where you are moving in is as important.
So, here’s the deal.
As per news reports, the old village of Lawers, on the north shore of Loch Tay in Perthshire, is on the block to be sold for ~INR 1.25 Cr (£125,000). The only catch is that your neighbour would be a ghost! Yes, you read it right. Legend has it that the site is still haunted by the spirit of the last owner – Lady of Lawers.
Much out of a Game of Thrones plot, and the like the character Red Woman, her Ladyship was a Scottish soothsayer from the late 17th century, who is said to have made some prophecies, many of which came true.
Her first prophecy was about the village church which was being built at the time – she said that the ridging stones would never be placed on the roof. So, when a violent storm blew up the stones to be washed into the deep waters of the loch, people started treating her with a new found respect coupled with fear.
So, what do you get as a part of the deal?
If you’re happy to co-exist with her ladyship, you’ll have a whole 3.31 acres of land in one of the most picturesque places on this planet. You’ll also get a mill, a kiln and the House of Lawers, which is said to stand on the site of an earlier house razed to the ground by the Marquis of Montrose in 1645.
A village that had a population of 17 people in 1841, dwindled to seven in 1891. By 1926, the village was abandoned.
Last sold for £100,000 in 2016, it is again up for sale!
What do the sellers have to say?
Jon Lambert, partner at selling agents Goldcrest Land and Forestry Group, mentioned that "This is an extremely rare opportunity to buy a part of Scotland’s heritage in one of the most beautiful places in the country, rich in history, romance and tradition. The Old Village of Lawers also offers fabulous amenity. The owners can launch a boat on the loch and enjoy fishing, picnicking and camping. It is a very special site."
