Train travel in India is not just a way to reach from point to point. It is also an entire experience in itself. However owing to the travel restrictions imposed on account of the pandemic many wanting to undertake a train journey were left wanting on account of cancelled routes and services.
What is resuming?
With the second wave plateauing travel seems to be limping back to normalcy. And a further shot in the arm has come from Indian Railways that is resuming services of fifty such special trains, starting June 21, 2021, as per media reports.
This gradual increase in the number of routes is being done based on the demand and the commercial justification of running the route. In the first week of June, 800 mail/ express trains were operating daily, and this has been increased to 983 trains as of June 20th.
Which trains are being resumed?
The special trains being resumed include several Shatabdi trains on New Delhi - Kalka, New Delhi - Dehradun, New Delhi - Amritsar, Delhi Junction - Kotdwara, Chandigarh - New Delhi routes. Others than these Delhi Sarai Rohilla - Jammu Tawi Duronto, Mata Vaishno Devi Katra - New Delhi Sri Shakti, Kalka - Shimla Express, Bilaspur - New Delhi Express, Jammu Tawi - Yognagari Rishikesh Express, Lucknow - Prayagraj Sangam Express, Chhapra - Lucknow Express and Farrukhabad - Chhapra Express trains have been resumed. Owing to the high demand a new summer special train from Gorakhpur to Bandra (Mumbai) will also be started from June 25th.
