I have hit the snow running four times in the past year; learning it the hard way how to tread on the snow successfully.
Some winter trekking hacks that I picked up from experience follow-
#1 Don’t wear your warmers while trekking. (Won’t be able to remove them and unnecessary sweating will take place)

#2 Don't let your body sweat while trekking, remove layers if necessary.( Sweating results in loss of body heat)

#3 Don’t wear your down-jackets while trekking.

#4 Wear your down-jackets in case it’s windy at the point you have stopped for a break.

#5 Start layering two hours before sunset if you are not trekking at that time, especially your down jacket and warmers.( Heat will remain in your body)

#6 Do not remove your layers before 8:30 or until you are comfortable with the weather.

#7 Don't brush your teeth in the morning before 8:30 or when you feel comfortable with the weather.(ideally use mouthwash)
#8 In case of an injury which results in bleeding, don't wash the area with cold water.

#9 Use your shoes wisely, don't let the snow make their way on the inside; wet socks and shoes may result in frost bite.

#10 In case of excessive snow, put your foot forward horizontally instead of vertically.
