The Story
This small island less than half a mile from Venice is today a forbidden island with a dark and twisted past. Once a quarantine zone for people who suffered from the plague - people were burnt and buried alive there! Later, in the 20th century, a mental hospital was opened and it is said that the place was full of ghosts which made the Doctors do strange things and they ended up taking all their patients life.
Even till today, people have claimed that they felt the presence of something evil as soon as they stepped foot on this island.
With a past like this, Poveglia is believed to be the most haunted, attracting the attention of ghost hunters and paranormal investigators too.
The mental hospital shut in 1968, and the island has been vacant since.
With more than 100,000 plague victims and mental patients buried on Poveglia island, the human bones continue to wash up on the shores.
