Day 1

Journey begins

Wayanad is a rural district in Kerala state, southwest India. It is a hill station and a perfect gateway for weekend.

The bus stand itself had a view.

Have a hearty breakfast of appam and chutney at a small shack.

Travel like a traveler, not like a tourist

Book an auto or a bike from Royal Brothers, Kalpetta and roam around like the locals.

Freshen up and head out as early as possible. There's always chances of rain. We headed to Pookode Lake. Park your vehicle, and walk for a kilometer. Entry charges Rs30/- pp. You can hire a bicycle for a round around the lake. Beware of leeches! On the way to the lake you can find a guy selling Bamboo rice payasam. Do try it. It's sweet, tasty and hot! Definitely something you need in that weather!

Drive for another 4 kms, you'll reach Lakkidi view point. You can see the curves of the road going downhill. On the way, you can find small streams rolling down with fresh water.

2 kms again and there's another view point---Wayanad churam.

36kms and head out to Banasura Dam, largest earth dam in Asia. On the way, stop over at CG-ALA the coffee grove. Peaceful place to your lunch. We had malabar chicken, fish thali and kerela porota.

You'll always be hungry, such is the weather!

You can find a wide range of fruits pickled. Mangoes, indian gooseberry and pineapple. Do try them!

Day 2

It might seem a bit odd, but sweet fried plantains are a great accompaniment with tea in the morning.

Colorful cookies with warm tea and it's drizzling outside!

Head off to Eddakal Caves which dates back to neolithic age. A steep walk of 2kms and then climb up 350 stairs to witness a mesmerizing view.

A quite picturesque location on the way back from eddakal caves is the 'Phantom rock.

This is definitely not too much if you haven't had breakfast. Patthri, puddu and chicken curry for brunch. Coffe/tea is a must. And how can you resist some good king fish fry!

Wrap up from God's own country! If you're returning to Bangalore in the evening, then chances are there you might get a view of few wild animals, as the most of the buses take the route via Muthanga Wildlife sanctuary/Bandipur.
