About Tungnath: Tungnath is one among the highest Shiva temples within the five Panch Kedar temples located within the range of Tunganath in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand. The Tunganath is also called as Lord of the peaks.
Best time to travel to Tungnath: April to November is the best time recommended to visit Tungnath as this time peaks are covered with greenery, fresh air and also weather conditions are perfect to trek.
Also, Tungnath Kapaat is open (April to November) during this season (Opening dates for 2020 will be announced soon) however if you want to experience the heavy snowfall and see peaks covered in snow then you should probably consider traveling by end of December till mid-February however this time can be a bit risky as driving is pretty difficult during this time also Panch Kedar Kapaat will be closed you can only enjoy the view.
What to pack for your trip to Tungnath: It’s important you have the right clothing, small luggage and I’ll personally recommend carrying a handy travel bag or backpack for your trekking.
Below are a few things you should carry:
Warm clothing
At least 2 trekking pants.
Trekking shoes.
Water bottle.
Basic medicine and first-aid.
Power bank (Don’t miss photoshoot).
Moisturizer to avoid dry skin.
Some snacks for your trek like dry fruits, protein bars, chocolates, etc.
Torch, etc.

By Air: -If you flying from outside the North states then the nearest airport will be Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun.
By train: Rishikesh is the nearest railway station however usually trains are not available so the nearest railway station will be Haridwar. After reaching Haridwar you need to take the bus for your journey till Tungnath.
Trip to Tungnath By public transport/Bus: Rishikesh is well connected to AC/ Non AC bus services.

Let’s start with your plan
New Delhi to Rishikesh: Rishikesh is approx 238KM from Delhi and this will take approximately 5 to 6 hours and AC bus tickets start from INR.530. I’ll recommend starting your journey late in the evening so you reach Rishikesh on or before 6 AM. You should pre-book your tickets online rather directly at the bus station.
Dehradun to Rishikesh: You can book buses from Dehradun or take a taxi depending on your budget
Rishikesh to Rudraprayag: Rudraprayag is 142 km from Rishikesh and it will take around 5 hours also there are no AC bus services available so you need to travel in ordinary buses available from 6:00 AM and this will cost you around INR. 200-250.
Rudraprayag to Tungnath: The last bus will be available to Sara Village and Tungnath is 19km.
If you are not on a tight budget then I’ll recommend booking a taxi to your hotel. This will cost you around INR.3000-3500 (return to Rudraprayag included).
Want to book a taxi till Tungnath: You can also call Yogesh #7409511336/7895720060/7409511336. I booked the taxi to Tungnath as there were no buses directly available (January’20) due to heavy snowfall and road conditions.
I’m not promoting anything here but he was very confident in driving even in slippery road and weather conditions and the best thing, he knows all the possible routes and nearby places so you can ask him and he’ll help you with the best and cheapest options.
WHERE TO STAY IN TUNGNATH: I BOOKED A CAMP JUST 4KM AWAY FROM THE STARTING POINT OF TUNGNATH TREK.
The Meadows Chopta, Resort & Camp (4km from the trek starting point).

Trek to Tungnath Temple: I started my trek early in the morning and the cab driver drove me to trek point from where my journey started to Tunganth temple.
I’ll recommend starting your trekking when it’s not dark as the trekking area is the wildlife dwelling region. You should also plan your return to your camp before sunset. Trekking to Tungnath is 3km and you can complete within 1-3 hours.
