Umrah is a religious and holy act for Muslims. It’s one of the major acts of Islam that Muslims love to perform. Umrah can only be done in the sacred city of Makkah. So, reaching there can be a daunting step for some Muslims. However, whenever you can perform Umrah, make the most of it and ensure a memorable experience.

Firstly, understand the Umrah Rituals

Proper knowledge of Umrah rituals is the first and core step. Undoubtedly, learning before implementing is the key to success. The same applies to the Umrah journey. So, one must make sure of the rituals and how to perform them.

Umrah has just four rituals:

1. Ihram

2. Tawaf

3. Sa’ee

4. Qasr

Ihram is the first condition before undertaking other rituals. Ihram is the name of state and attire that Muslim men and women wear. For men, it’s an attire with two pieces of clothing; for women, Ihram can be considered an Abaya.

Tawaf is the seven rounds on the Holy Kaaba. Make sure that you are doing Tawaf in the anti-clockwise direction. On the other hand, Sa’ee is walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah. Lastly, Qasr will mark your Umrah completion with a final shave/cut to your hair. Shaving is for men, and cutting or trimming is for women.

Ensure your physical fitness

However, it’s correct that you can perform Umrah in some hours in a single day. Older or disabled pilgrims may take some time to perform. Good preparation is another key to the best and most memorable Umrah performance. Yes, we are talking about physical preparation and fitness. For that, you must ensure your stamina when walking during Umrah. Secondly, you can walk or exercise daily to improve your physical fitness. Other matters are meals, nutrition, mental preparation, spiritual preparation, proper physical checkups, etc.

It also matters to select a suitable time slot to conduct rituals. However, the Grand Mosque is always open for pilgrims, and you can perform pilgrimage whenever you want between 24 hours. But let me tell you some suitable times:

• Pre-dawn (early morning)

• Morning time such as 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM

• Night time, like 11:00 PM to 02:00 AM

• After Fajar prayers

Reached at Masjid al-Haram

Masjid al-Haram, or the Grand Mosque of Makkah, is the actual location where you will conduct your Umrah. Please reach there at the exact time that you have decided. Here, you will perform some of the rituals that we have listed above. Apart from those rituals, you can perform Nafal prayers at the Station of Abraham and drink Zamzam water. After undertaking the rituals, it’s time to explore the whole Mosque in a spiritual environment.

Keep yourself Energized

As we already discussed, Umrah demands physical fitness. So, it’s natural that you will get tired while conducting the rituals. In this case, you have to keep yourself hydrated and energized. You can take breaks, drink water (Zamzam), and eat light snacks.

Memorize Duas and Supplications

A pilgrimage experience without making Duas is incomplete. Dua doesn’t only mean you must ask Allah Almighty for your good wishes and needs. No doubt, it’s correct, but there are some specific Duas and supplications you must offer while performing rituals. For example, you have offered Duas during Tawaf and Sa’ee.
