South Korea has introduced a new visa for foreigners. This visa allows foreigners to visit South Korea on a working holiday or a workation. The pilot project has started on January 1, 2024.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the new workation visa will be given by the South Korea's justice ministry. Anyone who wishes to get the visa need to have a work experience of over a year in one industry, you should also be eligible for remote work. The visa will also be allowed to the families of the employees.

1. Foreign nationals are required to have an annual income twice as much as South Korea's per capita gross national income.

2. South Korea's gross national income was $33,002 (INR 27,355,96.83 approx.) last year.

3. The applicants must have a medical insurance of over 100 million won, covering medical treatment and repatriation fees.

4. Additional requirements to the above need the person to purchase personal medical insurance along with home evacuation coverage of more than 100 million won ($7,750).

5. Anyone currently living in South Korea who is on a temporary visa can apply for this visa.

6. Visa applications can be submitted at Korean embassies abroad.

Anyone who gets the workation visa cannot be hired by any company in South Korea. Not just that, you cannot take part in any profit-making activity either.

For how long will the visa be issued?

The workation visa will be valid for one year with an option to be extended for upto two years.

The only way to work remotely in South Korea was on a tourist visa, which is now official under a working holiday visa.
