Situated in Raigad District at a height of 1350m above sea level, it is an engineering marvel.
Raigarh fort is spread across 1200 acres!!! has 11 wells, around 70 ponds and 350 walls.
It's been a long time I have been planning to visit this fort and finally the day has arrived.
Started off at 6 in the morning the avoid the traffic and summer heat.
Took the Old Goa Highway to reach the destination. The highway is not in a good condition and has heavy vehicles traffic.
Travel time was around 3 and half hours including fuel stops.
There are ample hotels and petrol pumps on the way.
The ghat section in the last part of journey is pretty interesting. The roads are in good conditions and wide enough. The view is memorizing with Sahayadri Hills on all 4 sides.
Once you reach the base of fort, paid parking space for 4 wheelers is available. After parking the vehicle head towards the ticket counter for Ropeway.
It takes around 5-10 minutes to reach the top.
After reaching the top, one has to buy another ticket for entry to fort. Guides are also present to give you a proper tour of fort.
It takes around 1 and half hour to visit all the important points on fort.
Refreshments are situated inside the fort for visitors.
If you are visiting in summer, then it is strongly advisable to carry enough water, sunglasses and cap.
Finishing a brief tour of the fort, took the ropeway back to the base.
Ended this trip on a good note :-)
