Being very close to the Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary, you will be able to see a large number of birds in the nearby forests and the village itself. Even if you are not a birdwatcher, spend some time looking for these beautiful birds and try to know about them. The experience will be quite enriching.
Explore the village
Yangang itself has some attractions to explore. There is a Lepcha Heritage Museum where you can find various artefacts of Lepcha culture. You will get an insight into the Lepcha traditions and culture here. There is also a helipad just 3 km away from the village. Another prime attraction is the Tig Cho Lake surrounded by the dense forests. The local monastery is another interesting place to visit. There is a rock painting of Guru Padmasambhava in the village near the monastery.
Visit Ravangla
Ravangla is another popular hill station of South Sikkim nearly 24 km from Yangang. You can make a day trip to Ravangla and visit the attractions there like the Buddha Park, known for the huge statue of Lord Buddha. The Ravangla Monastery and the Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary are other places to see in Ravngla.
Taste the Lepcha cuisine
A visit to a place is not quite completed unless you taste the local cuisines. Try the delectable Lepcha cuisine at Yangang. You can visit Yangang any time of the year. The winters are not that biting at Yangang and the summers are cool and pleasant. Bird watching can be enjoyed throughout the year.
How to Reach:
The nearest airport is at Pakyong near Gangtok. But flights to Pakyong are quite less in number. Major airport is at Bagdogra which is well connected with all the major cities. The nearest railway head is at New Jalpaiguri.
From New Jalpaiguri, Yangang is around 118 km by road. From Gangtok it is 53 km. You can hire a vehicle from either Gangtok or Siliguri to Yangang. There are shared jeeps available to Yangang from Gangtok, but they are very less in numbers.
