Mandawa is a small town in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan, known for it's beautiful hand-painted havelis. It is about 250 kms from Delhi, making it a great option for a royal getaway.

This small town is also famous as a preferred location for Bollywood with films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, PK and Jab We Met being shot here.

With many havelis now converted into homestay, hotels and guest houses, I had so many options to choose from. But I finally decided to stay at Mandawa Kothi.

It is small property with over 150 years of history, located in the heart of Mandawa. It has 10 rooms and each room is different in layout and set up. A beautiful garden where you can soak up some winter sun or chill by the fountain on a hot summer night.

About the property

This place is very tastefully done up in terms of furniture, artifacts and aesthetics and a room here would cost you about ₹4000 a night, which includes a hearty breakfast.

The food at this place is beyond compare. Everything they serve is absolutely delightful. Since they prepare fresh, you need to place an order at least 2-3 hours before your meal, trust me, you will not be disappointed.

The best part about my stay here was the staff, they are super nice and friendly. They made sure we had a comfortable stay and a great time at their property.

Around the property

In case you want to venture out a bit, you can explore the havelis of Mandawa, either on your own or with a guide. Each haveli is painted differently and has a story line to it. It is an absolute sight for all the art aficionados. Although, most of the havelis are in a dilapidated condition (which made me extremely sad), you would still be able to see the charming architecture and painting.

Apart from the havelis, you can check out the Mandawa Fort, which now runs as a hotel. There is also an old well right outside Madawa Kothi, from where you can witness gorgeous sunsets.
