2020 was a very unvaried and uneventful year due to pandemic and lockdown. And so when the lockdown was over, I and my friend decided to have an adventure and go on a trek and have a 2day stay in a hill station before the trek.
Doing a winter trek was on my Wishlist for quite some time and so we decided to do Kedarkantha Trek in December. Also as I was going to do this trek in March 2020 but it got canceled due to some obvious reasons.
We booked our tickets and hotel stays and trek according to our plan. It was during the end of December and our stay in Mussoorie was during Christmas.
The First day was very tiresome as we traveled a lot to reach the hill station. Our actual travel day started in the afternoon after checking in the hotel, getting fresh, and then heading out it was already around 3 pm and we had decided to rent a scooter as it would be convenient for us to travel in and around Mussoorie. So after calling 2-3 Bike/ Scooter rentals we finally booked one and got ourselves a vehicle ( The rent was 500 ₹/ day). After that we decided to have our lunch as we were starving, so we went to a restaurant which is on Mall road and is quite famous named Kalsang. It is an Indo-Chinese restaurant and though there are not many vegetarian dishes available, the available ones were quite delicious.
It was a little late after lunch and so we decided to ride the vehicle on the mountainous road as it was our first time riding on such roads. It was fun to ride and since it was sunset time we got to witness the famous Winter line of Mussoorie. This is one of the 2 places on earth from where the winter line is visible. It was mesmerizing.
Day2 started a little early since we couldn't cover places a day before, this was the only day we had to visit as many places as we can.
So after having our breakfast at the hotel itself, we started our journey to Kempty waterfalls which is around 19 km from Mussoorie because of which we decided to visit it first. It was an amazing ride towards the falls, we took some pit stops in between as the snow-capped mountains were visible on the way down to the falls.
After reaching the falls you can either climb your way down to the falls through stairs or take a rope line, we did the former and after reaching down you will see the huge falls hitting the ground in the cold winter morning it was still an amazing feeling getting hit by the cold water sprinklers of the falls.
After coming back up from the falls we had our lunch as there are many restaurants lined up before the stairs where you can have a meal, so don't worry of not having to eat before as there are restaurants here.
After our lunch, we headed towards the George Everest House which is around 5 -7 km away from Kempty. The ride there was uphill and it was fun to ride. After reaching the base of the hill you have to hike up to the house as vehicles are not allowed. We hiked our way to the house panting but to our disappointment, we couldn't visit the inside of the house as it was under construction/ renovation, but reaching there was worth as there was a hill right next to the house from where you can see the house and the mountains in the horizon and it was during sunset time which made it even more beautiful.
After spending time on the peak we headed towards Mussoorie and since it was Christmas day we decided to end our day by visiting the famous Landour Bakehouse which is in Landour. The ride to the cafe was quite long and it was late in the evening so we were not able to enjoy the beauty of Landour but the bakehouse was worth the hype. The ambiance was very Christmassy and the food was also amazing. We had a lemon cheesecake and a scone along with coco for me and Honey Lemon Ginger tea for my friend.
