It was third and final day of our anniversary trip, and we were going to cover ground in Ooty, our last destination on the immensely delightful journey so far.
So far we had covered Coonoor and Pykara. You can read about our adventures there here and here.
Our day started on soaring spirits with a superb breakfast in the hotel restaurant itself. We were checked-out by 10 am and had decided to go straight to the bus station in the evening to catch our bus back to Bangalore. With all of our stuff loaded in the cab, we embarked on our journey to experience all of Ooty.
We started at the Wax World Museum nearby, which to be very frank was okay. The place acts as a quick stop for most of the tourists. A wax statue of the one of most dangerous bandits of the south, Veerappan was truly life-like. It has a lot of other statues including those of many famous personalities.
In no time, we were at the Dodabetta Peak View point, one of the most sought after trekking spots in Ooty (trekking is optional though). The summit offers sweeping views of dense forests of Bandipur as well as the open highlands of Mysore. Being the highest peak in Ooty, it offers majestic views of all of the surroundings.
Next place was the one I was looking most forward to. The place producing a beverage almost every Indian loves. A perfect blend to everything - chai maggi, chai naashta, and chai sutta as well! The factory tour explained us the step by step process in making of the tea - from leaves to the final powder. It was amazing to spectate the whole process in action. At the end of the tour, they give everyone a complementary glass of tea to taste the real magic. And they have authorised retail shops just outside selling it.
Adjacent to the tea factory was the Homewood Chocolate factory. It's more of a retail store than a factory, because they don't show you much of how chocolate is made. But the variety of chocolates that you'd get there is rich.
The place contains not tens, not hundreds but thousands of varieties of roses - over twenty thousand to be even close. The garden is vast, arranged into five terraces with every terrace having various flower arrangements. The whole place is a treat for the eyes and a paradise for photo enthusiasts.
A complete analogy of the The Sim's Park that I had talked about in the part one of this series. Again, bask under the sun, admire the nature or get amazed by an exotic species of various flowers and plants here, the choice is all yours. Whatever you choose to do, you're gonna have a good time.
Our last stop on this wonderful journey was the most popular Ooty Lake and the destination that was actually situated closest to our Hotel :P The lake also has a boat house attached to it which makes boating one of the prime attractions of the lake throughout the year. At the boat house in the premises, you can either pay for motor boat rides or hire a paddle boat or rowing boat as per your convenience. Make sure to reach there by 5:30 pm if you wish to do boating, as they start closing it by 5:45 pm.
And thus ended yet another one of our spectacular journeys together.
Considering the fact that I'm writing it during the times when COVID-19 is at large, I would advise all of you to #StayHomeStaySafe and mark it as a reference for you future travel itineraries.
