The historic city of Mysore or Mysuru is one of India's richest settlements. Famed for its royal heritage, it attracts travellers from across the globe. The Mysore Palace, which is also a World Heritage site, is undoubtedly the most popular attraction here. But it is not the only monument worth noting.

A trip to the royal city becomes even more memorable if you get to stay at a heritage property. One such place is The Mansion 1907. As the name suggests, it was built in 1907 as a residence for a well-known businessman. It is located about a kilometre from the Mysore Palace, and is like an oasis of calm right in the centre of the city.

The Mansion 1907 is perfect for couples and group travellers who want to get a slice of the royal life. The property offers a good blend of luxury with historical influences. Located 20 minutes from the airport, it serves as the ideal base for exploring the city.

About the property

With influences from Indian and British architecture, the property boasts of beautiful columns and intricate wood work. The property was redone to give it a modern touch and incorporate basic amenities such as beds, air conditioning, television, and more for travellers. Large common spaces and balconies surround the dorms and private rooms to ensure proper ventilation and light.

The Mansion has three types of rooms and dorms:

Private rooms: There are three different types of private rooms. One private room has a shared bathroom, the second one has an air-conditioning unit and an attached bathroom, and the third has an attached bathroom.

Mixed dorms: Mixed dorms are also of three types. One of them has four beds, the other two have six beds each. While one is air conditioned, the other is not.

Female dorm: The female dorm has six beds and is tailor-made for female travellers to ensure their safety and security.

The Mansion offers all modern facilities to ensure the convenience of guests such as fully equipped kitchen, laundry, Wi-Fi and cycles on rent. Free of cost yoga classes are conducted on the roof every morning.

Food

The Mansion has a fully equipped kitchen. Not only do they serve delicious, homely meals, but also allow guests to put their culinary skills to test.

Things to do in and around the property

Take yoga classes: Yoga classes are conducted on the roof of the property early in the morning. Trained professionals guide the guests through a sequence of postures, educating them about the benefits and purpose of each pose at the same time.

Visit the Mysore Palace: Located in the heart of the city, Mysore Palace is the top spot for tourists here. Also known as Amba Vilas Palace, it was the residence of the Wodeyar Maharaja. It is located just 1.2 km from the Mansion. Built in 1912, the palace is a remarkable example of Indo-Saracenic architecture.

Take a walk around Brindavan Gardens: The beautiful Brindavan Gardens are popular with tourists and locals alike. Known for their symmetric landscape, the gardens are inspired by the layout of the Shalimar Gardens in Kashmir. The work on Brindavan started in the year 1927 and took five years to complete. Today, it boasts of parterres, fountains, terraces, water channels and lush green lawns. For a magical experience, visit the gardens at night to see the musical fountain.

Visit Dodda Gadiyara: Also known as the Big Clock Tower, Dodda Gadiyara is an 80-feet-high tower. Built in an Indo-Saracenic style, the tower represents the early English church. Dodda Gadiayara is located 1.4 km from The Mansion 1907.

Cost

The price for the private rooms start from Rs 1,200 per night (approx) while you can get a bed in the dormitory starting at Rs 500 per night (approx)

How to get there

By air: Nearest airport is Mandakalli airport, which is well connected to other airports in the country with daily flights from Delhi and Mumbai. From there you can get a taxi or bus to reach The Mansion.

By train: Located in the heart of the city, Mysore railway station is a convenient option if you plan to travel by rail. It is well connected with the rest of the country.

By road: Bangalore (148 km), Coimbatore (204 km) and Coonor (147 km) are well connected by the road to Mysore. A large number of buses are operated by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation.
