The Beautifully Garnished Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Took sometime to pronounce the name? Well I couldn’t even pronounce it properly even at my 10th attempt!

No matter how weird the name might sound but the place is nothing less than a paradise !

Europe is mostly about the famous and overrated spots but the natural charmers are some of the lesser known and less explored places. One of such gem is Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a small Bavarian town situated in the Southern part of Germany. The most convenient way to reach this fairyland is to fly down to Munich. From Munich you’ve got the option to hire a self driven car or take a bus/train to reach Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It’s around 89 kms away from Munich and takes around 2 hours approximately to reach the place.

This pretty li’l locale is actually a combination of two towns, Garmisch which is the more modern and fashionable segment whereas Partenkirchen is the traditional and the conventional section.

Since I crave to traverse the less explored parts of the globe, this place caught my attention when I was hovering the mouse of my laptop over the map of Germany. Having read a bit about this place from the internet, I couldn’t resist myself from visiting this gem and experience it’s divine beauty. I finally made a visit to this place during the summers of 2018. I was startled when I caught the first 360 degrees glimpse of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The town seemed surreal, straight out of a fairy tale.

The serene cobblestone streets adorned with pretty blossoms all around, the clear blue sky kissing the lush green meadows, the snow clad mountain peaks embracing the orange hued sunsets, the pleasant morning breeze jovially ruffling the leaves of the trees & welcoming the first rays of the sun and every single thing about this sparkling town is surely going to make you fall for it.

The mountain peaks stand as intermittent walls as if they’re acting as shields protecting the town from the foreign invaders. The appearances of the peaks seem to tell you different stories that you don’t want to miss. They make you feel as if there’s some mystery at the apex or behind it. The administration of this town seems to have observed this and hence, they’ve established cable cars to make almost all of the peaks accessible in a relatively less time.

Zugspitze, Germany’s highest peak is also situated here. To reach to the top of Germany, you’ve the option of hiking which might take a day or two alternatively you’ve the option of taking a train and then the cable car. The view from the summit is breathtaking. The state of Tyrol in Austria can also be reached from the top through the western part of this mountain as it is located in the Germany-Austrian border and a part of this mountain falls in Austria too.

Alpspitze is also a famous peak that’s accessible by a cable car/hiking.

The emerald blue Eibsee lake with a crystalline texture that lies at the base of Zugspitze, with charming cafes all around, is a dreamy spot that can’t go unnoticed.

The hiking trail of the Partnachklamm (Partnach gorge) gives an extra ordinary visual treat to the hikers. The dark and drenched path alongside the roaring ravine will make you experience an adventurous and enjoyable amble.

A stroll through the beautiful lanes to explore the place is all that you need to see and feel how enticing and magnetic Garmisch-Partenkirchen can be.

A trip to this land is incomplete without indulging in the subtle savour of the native dishes of that particular place. So when you’re in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, you cannot afford to miss the traditional Bavarian delicacies served in the local customary restaurants.

The Summer season paints the town in different delicate pastel shades, while the winter wraps Garmisch-Partenkirchen in a white blanket. It becomes a popular ski destination during the winter months.

The ambience and aroma of this li’l Bavarian town is hypnotic.
