We started the trip from Kaziranga and our first stop was Dhirang. We started from Kaziranga early morning and reached Dhirang late evening. We rested overnight and headed for Tawang. The journey from Dhirang to Tawang is beautiful and scenic. Stop if you see a herd of yalks or Ice or frozen waterfall because if you miss this beauty you will miss a big part of Arunachal. The people are friendly, helpful and if you feed at a Dhaba on the way, you will get a\ good quantity of food at a cheaper price. The other cheap food item are apples and kiwi, particularly kiwi which sells at 80-90/kg and if you have got good bargaining skills you can buy at even 60/kg.
On the way to tawang you'll pass through the Sela pass which is at a height of 13500 feet, higher than most of the other passes in India.
You can also visit Nura Lake near Sela Pass which is completely frozen during winters. By the time we reached tawang it was already sunset, so we decided to skip the local sight seeing and headed for the light and sound show which starts at 5:30 PM everyday.
We rested for the night while our Driver arranged for a local cab and permit for Bum La Pass and Madhuri Lake. We started very early next morning for Bum La Pass and Madhuri Lake. Bum La pass is at a height of 15150 feet and one of the highest Pass of India. The road during winters is terrible but scenic. Someday you may find 3 feet of snow on roads. We were lucky enough to find none.
The air pressure is quite low and people with low haemoglobin are advised to skip as I, even after having haemoglobin of 13 unit, faced difficulty in breathing. The day temperature ranges between -7 deg C to -20 Deg C and heavy breeze can make you sick. You can get a certificate too that you visited Bum La.
We went to Madhuri Lake next which is one of the most beautiful lake of the region due to the roots coming out of water. The lake lies in a valley and receives no sunlight and hence is at low temperature.
We headed back to Tawang from Madhuri Lake and reached Tawang by late afternoon. We did some local sight seeing, visited tawang Monastery and Buddha Statue and War Memorial. We headed back to our hotel and rested for the rest of the day.
Next day we made our way back to Dhirang. Dhirang offers hot water spring and apple gardens. Both can be seen in a span of 2 hrs. We rested at Dhirang a for the night.
Next day we headed for Bomdilla. Bomdilla is a small town and has a beautiful Monastery and art and craft store. There is nothing much to see other than the Monastery.
We spent a few hours in Bomdilla and headed to Bhalukpong Via Tipi. Tipi has an Orchid garden where you can see large variety of beautiful orchids.
