Day 1

So this October 2019 , I spontaneously decided to skip the City life during Durga Puja & head towards Tawang , Arunachal Pradesh which is at an Altitude of 15000ft approx. It was in my bucket list since childhood , I went to Arunachal Pradesh couple of times but never managed to plan a trip to Tawang . I have been hearing a lot about these Mountains ,that they give totally different chilly vibes. So , I quickly packed my camera bag and another for my requirements to suffice next 7 days , away from honking city life , internet & social media .

I started my journey from Guwahati towards Tawang where I passed through Rupa , Tenga Valley ,Bomdila and then reached Dirang Village which was my first day halt after 14 hours drive . I witnessed the magnificent Dirang Valley along with the blissful monastery.

Next day woke up to my early morning coffee , took a cold shower and just after the breakfast started towards Jang . My first pit stop was at the famous Sela Pass or the Tawang Gate, where I could feel the sun on my skin for a moment and the very next blink I could see a patch of clouds rushing towards me . I came to know from a local shop owner that the weather fluctuates after every 5-10 minutes , the feeling was completely different never imagined to feel clouds passing through my ears . After spending a hour or more with my camera and the location, I had some dumplings along with soup as I was frozen due to chilled weather and then continued my journey .

From Sela Pass we passed through an amazing place called Jang , Jang has a totally different variety of flora be the type or the colour of leaves on those mountains . These roads can be enjoyed the most if you are in a Bike along with your gang un-metalled bumpy roads but I was in a comfortable SUV . Mostly the outskirt of Jang is covered with Army camps , after passing one & half hour I reached Jang Town, so I thought of staying in a Home stay overnight and know bit more about their food & culture . I had the best of the local food and had some local rice drink which was much needed due to extreme cold temperature (temperatures was about 6-8 C at night) and then went off to bed . Next morning woke up to sun on my face through the little window and after breakfast packed all my camera gears as today is the day to shoot the famous Jang Waterfall(also known as Nuranang waterfall ), as soon as I reached near the fall , I could see the humongous waterfall, after spending two hours or more there , taking 100 of photographs I decided to head towards the Tawang City . I have never seen such a waterfall , I became overwhelmed with joy and happiness . By the time I reached Tawang it was cloudy & too cold for my light jacket ,quickly checked-in , had dinner and dozed off .

I checked in to one of the decent hotel ,Hotel Tashi Ga Stel , I got the lead from my personal travel agent , as almost all the hotels ,or homestay were sold out during this peak season . I made my own itinerary ,so today I planned to relax and heal my body from yesterday’s drive and also to have a quick Tawang City tour covering all the spots and Monasteries. Places you can visit are Tawang Monastery, War Memorial , Giant Buddha statue and Light Sound Show during evening .

Today is the day I was waiting since ages to witness the magnificent Tawang and it’s Dark Mountains. Today I planned to visit Bumla Pass (Indo-China border), Sangestar Tso Lake(Madhuri Lake) , Gori Chen Mountain , Pangateng Tso Lake , Suicide point and other un-named lakes & waterfalls which you can witnessed during this journey .But you have to take a special permit from Army base camp of Tawang & have to rent a local Tawang Permit Vehicle in order to visit these locations . For Permit you can either contact the hotel who can also fix a local vehicle or you can ask the cab driver who took you to Tawang .

(FYI the rates for the Local Vehicle is fixed for all seasons i.e. Rs 5000/- per day for 12 hours including the permits )

Day 6

Today I took an extra day to be in my Hotel or you can say the Tawang city , because yesterday was a hectic day the roads were bumpy through out except the climb to these mountains , no proper food (do carry fruits , water and other food items) I only had breakfast and reached hotel at 6:00 pm . But must say I got all the shots of the places I visited as per my imagination and also had the best day of this trip, it was breathtaking beyond my words to express like every moment I was in a location I experienced totally different vibes and a sense of gratitude , for such a spontaneous Trip to Tawang . You can actually avoid this day if you are in a tight schedule or budget, but I totally took the time to absorb everything that I went through yesterday and be in this place which looks dream for me like every moment you get to see or feel something new. Also today I planned to walk through the Tawang city just to breath clean air walk and an emotion that I built during these days with this place and also to witness the Light Sound Show of 1962 Indo-China War but I missed as it way too crowded and the tickets were sold out.

Day 7

So today is the day to leave this magnificent place , I would call Tawang as heaven’s garden where I experienced everything that I have never experienced and also got to witness places which was in my wish list since childhood , driven through risky roads , yet the best adventure where rainfall becomes snow during October .

So here we go ignited our SUV towards our return destination for today i.e. Tenga Valley which was a 8 hours drive and then I closed my eyes recalling the entire trip in the car and woke up to Tenga Valley at 4:30 pm.

Next day I was returning Guwahati, Assam which was about 9 hours drive from The Eagle Nest Residency , Tenga Valley , the drive was amazing crossing streams to valley to mountains to plain highways to my home .

This is how the Tawang trip came to an end and I wish to plan it again ,may be this time during winters .

If you have any queries related to Tawang Trip , you can ask me in the Comment Section , I will get back to you as fast as possible .
