Enjoying a toy train ride is one of the “must-have experiences” while visiting Ooty. Imagine passing through the serene landscape of the town to witness the beauty of the lush landscape and misty hills of Nilgiris!

So, as a summer gift for all the tourists, the Southern Railway Salem Division has introduced plans for a special mountain train between Mettupalayam-Ooty-Coonoor from March 29 to July 1. This move comes mainly to attract international tourists to the region during the summers. Read on to know more about it!

With the Mountain Railways of India holding UNESCO World Heritage status, both domestic and international tourists seek unforgettable train journeys in the Nilgiris!

Southern Railways highlights the unique experience of traversing 206 bridges and 16 caves amidst breathtaking vistas of rolling hills and lush greens!

The special mountain toy train will run between Coonoor and Ooty on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, while another train will operate between Mettupalayam and Ooty on Fridays and Sundays, and in the reverse direction on Saturdays and Sundays.

Since 1999, the Mountain Railways of India, including the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Nilgiri Mountain Railway, and Kalka Shimla Railway, have held UNESCO World Heritage status.

Renowned for traversing through exceptionally beautiful locales, these railways offer spectacular views from train windows, showcasing the country’s rich heritage!
