A much needed break from the covid situation. We zeroed in on Yulla Kanda, a destination in the kinnaur district. This was the first time I was visiting this side of Himanchal.
I was told this area is comparatively dry than say Kullu valley however I couldn't feel the difference as it was the monsoons when we went trekking here. Actually it rained cats and dogs when we were camped at the top in the night, so much so that it scared the sh*t out of us.
The Yulla Kanda is actually a temple site dedicated to Lord Krishna therefore mostly religious locals visit here. But the natural beauty here blew our minds also because of less people coming and it not being a commercial trekking route this was just perfect for us, it felt like our private mountain. It is perfect for camping if you don't mind all the cows, horses, sheep, dogs and yes yaks too. This meadow serves as grazing ground for the cattle of the surrounding villages.
We were trekking after a long time, for one of the two of us this was the very first time as well. So we took more time to reach the top than what we had expected. It took us almost 11hrs to trek 12 or so km. We camped there for 2 nights and descended on the 3rd day. We had a porter to carry our luggage. The homestay we stayed at was at the Yulla bus stop, lovely family running it.
This trek reminded me what I was missing by not going on such trips more often.
