Travelling to new places makes me feel so lively and gives an adrenaline rush. And what a better place other than Sikkim. Me and my brother decided to visit Sikkim in Feb 2021 post lockdown and it was one of the most memorable journeys of our lives. We booked a trip for 1 week from travel triangle which turns out to be pretty awesome.

We reached Gangtok airport from Nagpur on 6 Feb 2021 in the afternoon around 2pm. Our driver was ready to drive us from airport to Gangtok city. It took almost 5 to 6 hours to reach Gangtok. The road journey was pleasing as we could see the lush greenery, mountains and feel the cold breeze on the way. We stopped at one point from where we could see the beautiful Teesta river. It is considered as sacred by the people of Sikkim.

We reached in the evening at 7pm and it was already dark. We checked into Hotel Kaso and rested to the night.

Day 1: We were supposed to visit Tsomgo Lake and Gangtok city spots; however, due to snowfall at the lake we started our journey for Lachung to visit Yumthang valley. The journey from Gangtok to Lachung was long (6 hrs), we were travelling through the mountainous roads. But not for a moment did we felt bored given to the attractive landscapes and green forests. On the way, we visited one waterfall and took some quick snaps. We halted at Mangan for lunch. We reached our hotel in the evening and rested for night; but it was so cold that we could hardly sleep.

Day 2: At Lachung- In early morning we headed for exploring Yumthang valley also called the valley of flowers (due to rhododendron flowers). Due to snowfall, army was not permitting vehicles so we had to wait and finally we got permission to visit after the weather become normal. Thanks to our driver who suggested to wait for some time. I guess we were lucky. As we entered the valley and were approaching ahead, we were amazed and stunned by the beauty of it. The sides of the road and trees were partially covered with snow. Rhododendron plants were spread all across the valley; although the flowers were yet to bloom. One should visit in Mar-tp Apr when the flower blossoms. Words will fall short if start to explain the beauty of what we saw.

After Yumthang excursion, we had lunch at Hotel and headed back to Gangtok. In the evening, since we had some leisure time we walked towards M.G. Marg market few kilometers away from our Hotel (hotel kaso). Everyone who visit Sikkim must go to this place. Its very clean, full of life and wonderful place to hangout. Moreover, the eatery shops over there are just amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed walking up the street.

Day 3: It was again our lucky day owing to the better climatic conditions that we got permit to visit Tsomgo lake. The lake was partially frozen with snow. I took a bumpy Yak ride upto the point from where cable cars were running. Cable car ride was one of the extraordinary experience of my life. We could see the Kanchenzonga peak from height. Near the Tsomgo lake, is situated a Memorial & temple honoring Indian army soldier, folk hero & saint Baba Harbhajan Singh. Just few distance away from temple, we could witness one huge statue of Lord Shiva in white sandstone which gives a feel that He is sitting in the mountains. You need to walk few meters and climb few stairs to take a look from nearer.

Day 4: Now was the time to visit Pelling. This part of Sikkim is quite calm and composed, more of comprising religious places. First we visited Sai Baba Temple which is well-known amongst the local tourists. The temple was really beautiful to see from outside and inside as well. Then we headed to Namchi to visit Siddheshwar Dham (Char Dham). The place is named so; because of the replicas of all the Char Dham Shiv Temples has being built here. The place is for peace lovers and Shiva devotees. The main point of attraction there is "Tathagata Tsal" (Buddha Park of Ravangla). The park is known for 130ft statue of Buddha placed at the centre of the garden. The features and design of the statue are admirable from outside. Below the statue there is a dome like area comprising three floors where there are pictures and written notes depicting all 12 deeds of Buddha (as per Tibetan Budddhist Texts). The place will surely give you a peace of mind and a feeling of harmony.

Day 5: On last day we explored few other attractions of Pelling. First stop was Rimbi Orange Garden. The garden has several orange trees. It was pleasure to see how trees were adorned with oranges. Alongwith orange trees there were also other plantations of spices like cardomom. After taking a small walk through the garden, there is Rimbi river flowing over the rocks and surrounded by forests which forms a scenic view. Next stop was Naga Falls with a stunning view. The gushing sound of waterfalls was a music to my ears. Later we headed towards Khecheopalri Lake, a sacred place and has become a famous pilgrimage place amongst Buddhists. It is also considered as a wishing lake by many; I also made a wish. There are plenty of big fishes in the lake and it is considered a good fortune to feed them. Several shops outside the lake were selling the food balls to feed the fishes. The next spot was Skywalk-one of the India's first glass skywalk opposite the 137 ft tall statue of Chenrezig. There are numerous stairs that leads to the magnificent looking statue with rows of golden prayer drums on each side that adds to the magnificence of the place. The walk through the Skywalk just felt so dreamy. The last place we saw was Singhshore Bridge, a 198m suspension bridge, the highest in Sikkim and second highest in Asia. Walking on the bridge was a thrilling experience. The place is a perfect spot for some picturesque and classy shots.

Sikkim is really a mesmerizing place to visit. The beauty of the place differs from season to season. Those who want to experience snow and thrill can visit in winters. And those who desire pleasing nature with blooming flowers and clear skies can visit from Mar to May. The people are also nice and humble. I am happy that I chose this place in northeast. It is a true gem.
