Had a short getaway trip to Bangkok with my parents. However for most of the trip I was alone as they went shopping. I decided to plunge right into the midst of Bangkok and immerse myself in street food, history and culture.
Checked in at the World's Best Airport as with every single trip of mine. The flight was FD2940 from Singapore to Don Mueang Airport, Bangkok, Thailand. Thai AirAsia is pretty decent and cheap for flights to Thailand from Singapore. *TRAVEL TIP: Right now, Scoot's a much better way to fly, it goes to BKK and there are weekly sales that make travelling to Bangkok much cheaper!*
Arrived in DMK, took a taxi to Hotel Ibis in the central area of Bangkok. DMK is cosy, decently well equipped and is an okay airport to arrive in. BKK is better connected however thanks to the airport express.
Went to the famous MBK to shop and eat. Managed to catch a muay thai kickboxing match as well! Was quite exciting!
Roamed around the surrounding streets for good street food. Bangkok is famous for having a huge wealth of street food that is yummy and cheap.
Took the BTS skytrain to Saphan Taksin, and transferred onto a boat to go to the Grand Palace. River ride was really nice, the wind was a huge respite from the tropical heat.
A really beautiful beautiful palace complex with differences between the medieval and industrial architecture. Lots of history and glamour.
It was then time to head back home from DMK! DMK's departure hall looks aged, and is decorated with murals of King Bhumibol's travels which is really thoughtful, I guess! Macdonalds there has the sawadee greeting posture too. Flight back on Thai AirAsia was uneventful.
